rehearsal dinner invites

are you knotties sending out invites for the rehearsal dinner? I am planning on it, but when i mentioned to my SIL when she was planning on sending them, she was like..."oh i didnt even think about doing that." But all the wedding books and resources i have say to send them...and 4 weeks in advance.
Is it something that is unnecessary? Or am I right?

Re: rehearsal dinner invites

  • My FMIL is handling all of the RD. She needs to know a head count for the dinner, therefore she is sending out invites. Everything I have read has said anywhere from 2-4 wks out. FMIL is sending ours soon so she can allow time for the rsvps to come back and give the final count in time. You will probably get mixed answers on this, but I think they are nice and in our case, almost necessary. I think it also depends on the formality of your RD, is it at a restaurant or more like a backyard bbq type thing?
  • We will send out invites too.  I don't know who is handing them yet but we will.  I don't know when they will get sent out.  Hopefully 3 weeks before the wedding. Most of the people coming know they have to be there luckily!

  • They aren't necessary, but they are a nice touch, especially if you need a firm headcount ahead of time.

We DIYed with a simple kit from target and mailed them out about 2 weeks ahead, but people knew the date long before.  We would have sent them earlier if they were going to more than just the people who were at the rehearsal.
  • We're sending them out and also enclosing a list of times/addresses for the rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, wedding, etc. and other pertinent information.
  • I made our RD invites. PIB under DIY. We sent them out 3 weeks beforehand and asked for regrets only.

  • You can do them but they're not required.  DH and I haven't received an invitation for any RD that we've attended including our own.
