First post - Need Advice!!

I really love Bay 7 in Durham and would like to use them for my wedding, but their contract says that they can cancel my event at any time for any reason.  Is this a normal statement to put in a contract?  I have other contracts from different places and this is not the case.  Anyone using them or have any feedback?  Thanks!

I don't remember seeing anything like that in my contracts & it would definitely concern me. However, we did have a local knottie have her wedding there a while back (I can't remember who it was at the moment) & as far as I remember, she was very happy.

That's an interesting clause.  I'd ask them what they mean, sometimes hearing them talk it out helps.  Does it mention refunding your money?  Does it mention helping you find an alternate location?

You may consider wedding insurance to mitigate your risk.

Like Mary suggested, I would talk to them about it.  Tell them you have concerns about that particular clause and see what they say.  It might make you feel better.

That said, that type of clause would be a deal breaker for me.  Even if they said it would only be in extraordinary circumstances, they would give your moneyback, and help you find somewhere else, I would insist those guarantees also be in writing, and I would stll be nervous.  Wedding planning is stressful enough without having the worry in the back of your head that your venue could cancel at any time without a good reason!

I love Bay 7, but I agree that is strange. There is another location in Durham (actually several) that have the same type of feel- The Cotton Room is very nice and I don't think they have that type of thing in their contract. Not sure if you've looked there but thought I would just mention it.

    Good luck!

I agree with Beth.  If you did decide to go with them, I would get all of those questions answered and in writing as part of the contract. I would also ask them what is considered a good enough reason to cancel the event and have them put that in writing as well.  But even with all of that, I would still be uneasy.

No..No..No...Never agree to that.  This sounds like some of the junk happening where they cancel your event when they get someone else in with a higher spending level.

    Bad Bad Bad.

Thanks for the advice and suggestions ladies!  I don't think I will use them.  I have asked around and even other venues said that was strange.  I want someone who will agree to hold my date and time when I agree to rent their space.  So my search continues....

I think you should tell them you will sign it if that also let's you do the same thing and see what they say.

I walked by Bay 7 last night on my way to the baseball game.  I think you can find another space with that look.
