is it evening yet? -evening thread

Let's see if TK is glitch free tonight.

How was everyone's saturday?  Any wedding related checks?

Mine was pretty productive  grocery shopping, laundry dishes and library taken care of.    FI and I are going to catch up on this seasons Dexter - I think we left off on episode 4.

We got confirmation from the hotel where we reserved a block of rooms.  They need reservations by August 31, which I think is way early but it is a great hotel (Hamton Inn) less than 5 miles from the venue and comes with a big breakfast.  The sales manager suggested we put the info on our STDs but we have already ordered and received our STDs from VP so I have to decide if i want to print up a card with the hotel info on it and send them both together in an envelope (which was what we were trying to avoid hence the post card) or order new ones with the hotel info on it, which would be a waste of paper!

Any suggestion?

Re: is it evening yet? -evening thread

  • Hey there!

No wedding related checks for me today, but FI and I are meeting with a florist tomorrow to look over some of her work and such. Hoping that goes well. She did my friend's wedding and it looked gorgeous and cost next to nothing. I should have done laundry and gone grocery shopping like you... It started snowing so I no longer want to go shopping, and the laundry is still sitting in the hamper. Yay laziness!

August 31 sounds REALLY early for confirmation! I'm glad you're going to include it in your STDs in that case. I think printing up a separate card with hotel info should be fine, unless your heart is really set on a no-envelope postcard!

  • Do you have a website included with your STDs? If so, you could just add something on the site about hotel accommodations. Our hotel is not holding rooms once it is a month prior. They will still give the room rate if people book, but aren't guaranteeing rooms after the month cut off.

FI and I went to visit my "niece" - my MOHs baby in the NICU. She is so cute and small and doing well. Other than that I avoided laundry and cleaning and have been sitting on my butt.

  • I was planning on doing fake flowers but have been swayed by my mother and aunt who talked to a small florist in her town.  The florist said that fake wouldn't be that much cheaper than real so I am going to meet with her at some point to see what she can do with my small budget.

It has not snowed yet here, well it has but nothing significant.  I am excited for our first big snow and snow day!!!

I am hoping to send out the STD sometime in late Jan or early Feb so Fi and I have better come to a conclusion soon!

    Love your Siggy!!!

  • Random - But I liked it better when the time stamps were EST, probably since that is my time zone. The new times are throwing me off. Stupid Knot.

  • Petal-  We do not have a website I hadn't really planned on making one.  I am not too tech savvy.

Yay and Aww for the new baby girl!!!

  • PetalPockets- I hope your "niece" is ok! NICU is a very scary place to be, although it sounds like she is doing well. Was she a premie?

Kimm- I liked PetalPockts idea of updating the information about the hotel on the website. I know that's one of the things I check first when I open up someone's wedding website.

I was really excited for the first big snow, too, until it hindered my shopping plans. Oh well. At least it's pretty, and at least I don't smoke anymore so I don't have to stand in it this winter.

  • I did my website through TK for free. It was already set up and I just had to type information.

I would say, save your money and send it postcard style. Maybe send out an email after the STDs with additional information (things to do, places to stay, etc). Or just use your family to spread via word of mouth.

<div>At my job for a while I was calling California all day long so I got pretty used to PST. I had a hard time when TK was in EST because I'm just not used to it, even though it's only 1 hour different from me. I don't know what the sense in changing it was, though.</div>

  • kate - I was kind of scared in NICU. All the machines kept making noises. She was born 6 weeks early but is doing great. She just has to eat some more and then she will come home.

I'm not a smoker but if I was, I'm sure I would be quitting if I had to be out in the cold to do it. I love my FL weather! Snow is pretty to look at but I like warm weather.

  • I started a 9 day vacation today!!! Hoping to get a few wedding checks done, but I might just be lazy and watch Christmas movies.

  • I will have to check out the websites on here! I guess I don't know too much about the website I always just go october 2012.

random question - A couple of years ago I made burritos that called for mixing sour cream in with the ground beef after it was browned and the seasoning was added and then cooking them in the oven in a baking dish after they were assembled.  I bought all the ingredients to make it (ground beef, seasoning, sour cream, cheddar cheese, tortillas) but cannot seem to find the recipe on line.  Has anyone made burritos this way?  Or how much sour cream do you think i should add to the meat? I was thinking about a 1/4- 1/3 of a cup?

  • I'm glad to hear she is doing so well. That must be a relief for your MOH.

If I lived somewhere warmer like FL, I don't think I ever would have quit. I knew all along that it was bad for me, but I needed immediate consquences to quit, and once the weather started turning colder, it was like, "Alright, enough of this shiit."

I like snow from about now until January. After that point, I am sick and tired of winter and wonder why on earth I live in MN. But I can't imagine Christmas without snow...

  • That sounds nice Brittney. I'm getting ready to watch Christmas movies. I am like a nut recording everything on Hallmark and Lifetime.

    Favorite Christmas movie anyone?

  • Brittney- the Christmas movie idea sounds AWESOME. We don't have any, but I'm sincerely considering paying to watch one or two on demand and curling up with a blanket. Don't feel bad if you end up spending your vacay relaxing rather than getting checks; vacations are for sanity!

My favorite Christmas movie is called One Magic Christmas, it came out in the 90's I think and is kinda depressing and I haven't seen it or been able to find it in a long time...

  • Hello!
I finally have a wedding check! Sort of at least, I talked to a wonderful photographer today. All I need to make the deposit and decide if I want to make a album myself online. I've also sent off the FH's Christmas Care Package! :) Hopefully it makes it too him before Christmas. I really want him to enjoy Christmas this year. I sent him little package of  instant snow that turns into snow when you add water. That way he can have a little bit of snow. Tomorrow I'm not doing much at all....just going to church and getting a mani/pedi.

Haha! You don't sound like a creeper at all, and I should have guessed from your siggy pic that you love them as much as I do. Literally, I took my vacation this week so I could enjoy watching them! I feel like I always have intentions of watching Christmas movies and enjoying the season, but then I never find time. This year I am!

  • Ok, good, glad I'm not too creepy! LOL.

Cecelie - Sorry if I've missed this, but where is your FI? Are you guys far apart? I need to get a mani/pedi but I'm trying to hold off till closer to Christmas so it lasts.

  • It makes me cry, but I think that's because it reminds me of my late mother. If you like old movies, I think it's good. Heartwarming, like any Christmas movie. :)

  • It makes me cry too. I'm just a sentimental baby. It's a classic more similar to the original Miracle on 34th Street than more recently made movies.

So I am 30 years old and I have never seen It's a Wonderful Life or any classic Christmas movies, I feel like I should be ashamed/dissapointed in myself and promise to watch them this year!

  • I have loved reading through everyones posts! Sounds like a mix of things going on with my fellow October Knotties!!

@PetalPockets- I hope your neice gets out of the NICU soon, saying an extra prayer at night for her.

@Brittany- Enjoy your vacation!! Woohoo :-) Getting back into a regular schedule will be nice I am sure if you are used to working night shifts!

My favorite Christmas movie I think is Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, the cheesy old version :-) I have loved reading the back and forth between you two about Christmas movies haha.

@kimm260- I think you would be fine sending out an email or like Petal said putting it on a website with other info like things to do which is especially nice for out of towners. I did postcards too for STD without a website... I may actually put it on the invite, it needs to go out early enough anyways that people will still have plenty of time to get their rooms.

I started my job on Monday so I am adjusting to that schedule again but I am so happy to be working again. I did get a wedding check this weekend though... took advantage of a sample sale and got a great deal on a dress. I am second guessing a little bit but I think it is only because I am by myself trying on dresses- another downfall of living far from your family- so I have no one to do it with me, its all been based on internet pictures and any salon pictures I can get!!
