Flower Girl/Ring Bearer Ages...

Any thoughts on what is too young for flower girls and ring bearers?  My future niece and nephew will be about 2 and 3 years old on our wedding day, and I'm worried this is way too young. Our plan as of now is to wait until we get a bit closer (my wedding is next May) and see what their parents think about it, since obviously kids at those ages can vary a lot as far as whether they would be ok with this kind of thing, but I thought I would see if you all have had experiences with this.  Just a note--we are having our ceremony outside and about 250 guests.     my flower girl is 3 and I'm a little concerned because she is REALLY naughty, but we'll have to see!  I teach preschool, so I know full well that kids can be unpredictable and I don't mind that.  I just don't want her running around or throwing a fit!

    I think that those ages are fine as long as you are ok with the possibility of them not cooperating. You just have to understand and be alright with the fact that they might get cold feet or they might throw a tantrum. Chances are they will cooperate though and they will be adorable :)
    Our flower girl and ring-bearer will both be 4.

    Our ring bearer is 9 and our flower girls are 6, 2, and 10 months

    Ours will both be 4 but I agree - I think those ages are fine as long as you understand that depending on their mood that day you may or may not get them down the aisle.

    Mine were 3 and 6 and did great.  It's key that you have one of their parents (or loved ones) at the start of the aisle to remind them what to do and one at end of the aisle that they can see and walk to.  That young, I would also suggest not having them throw petals.  Have them hold a bouquet or a pom or something.

    Oh, I've also heard of brides decorating a little radio flyer type wagon and having an older kid pull it down with the younger kids inside.

    My flower girl is my only niece and she will actually be barely 2 at our wedding in August. We have uneven sides in our bridal party (3 guys, 4 women), which will actually work just perfectly because then I can have my sister, my niece's mom, walk down the aisle with her. If she cooperates, great, if not no big deal. She's just going to be so darn cute in her dress! I think there will be a pretty decent chance that she will cooperate, even if that involves my sister carrying her down the aisle :)

    Our flower girls will be 6 and 3, and they're siblings.  We're going to wait and see about the younger one, but hopefully it'll work out since she'll be walking with her older sister and her dad is going to be the best man, so he can help coaxe her along.  Our ring bearer is my nephew, who will be 8.  I can't wait to see him walk down the aisle in his suit with the ring pillow!

    I'm teasing the kids right now by telling them they have to do a little dance and that my nephew needs to make a speech when he gets down the aisle to us.  They're going to be so nervous!

    Thanks for all the posts! Their dad will be the best man so he will be there waiting for them, and their mom could be at the end of the aisle when they start walking down, so I'm sure that will help, like you guys said. If they don't quite make it down the aisle, that would be ok with me too! I know when you have kids that young involved, you can't expect everything to go perfectly!
