Wedding Music

So I have a question. I'm thinking I don't want the classical wedding music for my wedding because I'm not very traditional but I don't know how to incorporate other stuff. Does it have to be instrumental? or can it just be a regular song?

You're supposed to have a different song for the bride and bridesmaids right?

What girls have used their own music selection and what did you choose/how did it work out?

Thanks :)

Not sure if you're planning on a church ceremony or something secular, but if you're doing the church route I'd first check with them to see what they allow.

Supposing you're going the secular route, there are many beautiful instrumental versions of modern songs that ladies have used. I don't have any specific suggestions, as I am limited by the church, but I know some other ladies have great suggestions.

IMO - I think its better when processionals, etc. are instrumental but that's a personal preference, there's nothing wrong with having lyrics.

There's no hard and fast rules about needing different songs for the BMs vs. the Bride - I think most women select a different song so the guests are aware that the Bride is coming. A lot of ladies have picked a song that has special significance to their relationship which is a sweet idea.

Are you planning on having your DJ work the ceremony too or hiring a seperate group to play at the ceremony only?

Yeah I'm going the secular route. My ceremony is at a concert venue :) I'm all about different haha. I do agree with you on the instrumental thing for the processional but I DO know once we're pronounced Hubby and Wifey I have a song I HAVE to play thats pretty much a rock song but its cute and fun and upbeat! That DOES have lyrics. I guess as long as its pretty before and celebratory after it will work out well right?

I'm not sure how it works but I believe there is a sound guy for that room that will do the music. I still have to double check on that!

What songs are you using? Just like traditional church hymns and such?

That sounds like fun! I love the idea of the recessional being a really upbeat song. I'm sure if they have a professional song guy he can do a great job. Look into it and see if you can set up a meeting with him to talk about it.

We're doing all classical stuff, Bach, Purcell, etc. plus the hymms and psalms during Mass.

Do what makes sense for you & FI - your plan sounds great. Sorry if you've posted this before, but out of curiosity, where are you guys getting married?

Yeah I'm excited. I'm sure it will all work out. I just get stressed living out of state and planning from so far away with limited trips back to MI.

We're doing something completely different and getting married at The Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac. It doesn't specialize in weddings by any means but its a historic building downtown and its artsy and edgy and I LOVE it.

We aren't doing the traditional thing for our ceremony, either.  We're using lots of Vitamin String Quartet songs and yes, we'll have a different song for the BM and bride.  We are both really into music, and I love VSQ because they make some of the greatest rock songs sound pretty enough to not offend grandmas and grandpas :)

We have some stuff picked out, but nothing set in stone yet.  We're thinking some U2, Fleetwood Mac, Rolling Stones, Beatles, and Zeppelin.

Thats awesome leeshab! My recessional song is picked out for sure! That is going to be "I was born to love you" by Queen :) They're my all-time favorite! The processional is still being worked out... still can't decide whether or not I want instrumental or words. :/
