Worse than a honeymoon registry

I was on Pinterest today and found this gem: http://www.Depositagift.com The site even talks about all the etiquette associated with it.

Re: Worse than a honeymoon registry

  • Ya, these sites suck pretty hardcore.

  • Just. Wow.

My favorite part is how they quote Peggy Post as saying that it's acceptable to give cash... but she doesn't say it's acceptable to ask for it.

  • "Monetary gifts are certainly acceptable these days. In fact, they're a thoughtful way of giving the recipient the freedom to choose his or her own gift."

  • It's like they took every cliched reason to ask for cash (but we already have! but we're moving! etc) and rolled it into a tacky site.

  • Wow, i prefer cash but i will leave it up to my guests how to procede, no gift, gift, gift card, cash. I certainly couldn't imagine asking for it.

  • From the Emily Post Institute:

"You’re not limited to just registering for “stuff.” Charities are another option, but avoid controversial causes. You can register for a honeymoon or a trip (be careful – some services charge a fee or a percentage of the gift to cover “handling”) or even dance lessons."

    And

"While there are websites that help to facilitate cash gifts, it’s best to have at least one other online registry as well, as many guests may not feel comfortable having no traditional gift options to chose from"
