  • Brie, I watched a video about polyandorous communities in Tibet and Eastern Africa in a Gender Equality class in college. It's so fascinating to see how different cultures interpret the meaning of gender.
  • Pooh, I grew up in San Francisco/Marin County when I was young, where people will shun you at a BBQ if you bring hot dogs unless they're tofu or free-range, vegetarian-fed, organic :) My family kept the same food philosphy even after moving to the midwest.

My BFF in college is from Katy, TX, and I visited her for a spring break. Beautiful country, but I couldn't find anything to eat at a restaurant!
  • yea, it is difficult. Austin and Dallas are the best bets when looking for vegetarian food in this state, especially Austin (aka hippieville according to Aggies ;) ). my college best friend and former roommate is vegetarian, so we eat out a lot where there are vegetarian items on the menu. it is difficult and she is sometimes forced to get a salad or pasta just to have some food. she is also one of my BMs, where I'm serving BBQ, Texas-style. I have made sure there are plenty of vegetarian items available--salad, beans, these really fuucking awesome mashed potatoes, etc, because I don't want her to go hungry at my wedding!
