"Traditional" food?

I'm from Minnesota and FI is from Puerto Rico (where we both live and where our wedding will be). We were thinking of having our food reflect the blending of our two cultures by having some traditional Puerto Rican food and some traditional food from the States. We've got the Puerto Rican stuff covered, but the closest thing I can think of to "traditional" American foods would be hamburgers, hot dogs, and apple pie... none of which really strike me as appropriate for a wedding. Any ideas???

Re: "Traditional" food?

  • What did you have for a fancy dinner when you were growing up?

For me, my parents would cook a roast beef or roast turkey dinner with all the trimmings (scalloped potatoes, fancy vegetables etc and fresh baked bread).
  • What about foods that come from your heritage?  eg. Irish, Swedish, etc....
