House is already set, so what to register for?

My FI and I have been living together for a while now and literally have EVERYTHING we want/need for the house. When I moved in, both of us even had to get rid of a few things because we had duplicate sets of things. I wouldn't mind a couple new picture frames or even some candle sets, but those aren't things I would feel comfortable registering for (If I really want them that badly I'll just run out and get them this weekend).

I'm faced with the dilemma though on what to register for. I've heard of people creating a fund at a travel agency that wedding guests can contribute to for the honeymoon. Some really like that idea, but some friends have said that it's in poor taste. What do you think? Do you think registering for the honeymoon is appropriate? Or do you have other suggestions for what we could register for?

HM registries are going to be a hot topic on this board, so to avoid that whole debate, I'm just going to say if some friends have said it's in a poor taste, I'd skip it.

Is there anothing you'd like to upgrade? Higher thread count sheets, better towels, better kitchen appliances?

Also, you could just create a small registry with things that you mentioed like picture frames or candles, and spread it via word of mouth that you'd prefer cash.

Good idea. I'm trying to avoid the conflict and drama related to this topic, lol. I was looking for more suggestions than anything else.

As for updates, my FI and I did that when we moved in. There was a huge Kohl's sale and we had an additional 30% off everything, so we went a little crazy there, lol! There is literally NOTHING we could think to upgrade for the house at this point.
I was thinking it would be fun to look into registering at a local flower nursery as my FI and I wanted to do some landscaping, but seeing as our wedding is in July I don't think that's the way to go. By the time we get our gifts it would be too late to do a lot of the planting, and we'd have to store whatever we got until 2011. It wouldn't be practical I don't think.

I like the idea of a charity registry, but I know some people would want to give a gift to us as well.

I would suggest avoiding honeymoon and charity registries. Both are very controversial and you're likely to offend at least some of your guests, even if they don't say anything to your face about it.

What about...

-tools (I believe Sears has a registry)
-a fireproof safe for documents
-an air mattress for extra guests
-formal china
-crystal glassware
-nice silver
-toasting flutes for the wedding
-cake server set for the wedding
-fun appliances, like an ice cream maker or panini press or espresso machine
-patio furniture
-decor items (I wouldn't have a problem with purchasing nice frames or candle sets)
-nice wall clock
-storage boxes/organizers
-steamer for steaming dress clothes
-extra sheets to rotate in and out
-extra towels for when yours start to fray
-matching accessories for the bathroom
-wine fridge
-barbecue grill

And so on, and so on. In some areas and social circles, it's also fine to register for things like a digital camera, a Wii, a printer, DVDs/video games, board games, camping equipment, and more fun stuff. You just have to know your crowd.

Hello!

We are going to start registering tomorrow....and I have looked through the boards to see where I can ask this question...but I cannot find one (aside from this one) that is close to the topic! I do not want to hijack this thread....but I am hoping people on here can give me some much needed advice!

we are getting married in Jamaica in May, but our reception is in July....when registering, what date do we use for the "event"? I have googled, texted and FB'd friends....but I just dont know what to do!

Any help would be wonderful!

I would put it for the later date in July, just so the store continues to keep your registry open for guests to view.

I think Brie has some great ideas on what to register for. DH and I thought we'd have trouble registering as well since we were merging my apt items and his condo items into one but we still registered for China, crystal, sheets, towels, blankets and serving pieces. If I could, I would have registered for more serving platters and bowls for every day use since I always feel like I don't have enough.

And I also would consider guest accomodations like she suggested. You'd be surprised how often you'll need two to three sets of clean sheets for use at one time.

In addition to what was already mentioned, think about things that get replaced. Sure, you have sheets and towels now, but they don't last forever. You could always do things like that that will wear out.

Outside of the traditional home stuff, rather than doing a travel or charity registry think about things like sporting goods or outdoor equipment, or luggage if you travel. You could also register for some of the landscaping things besides the actual plants, like gardening tools. People would probably give you GCs that you could use the following fall and spring for plants.

If you really won't use things, don't register for them just because. If you skip the registry, most people will give cash or gift cards. Those that are only comfortable with physical gifts tend to go to candle sticks and picture frames when there is no registry.

I was in the same situation and although I did a honeymoon registry, I also did a regular registry and registered for mostly things to entertain since I do a lot of that: new crystal, gold chargers (which I also used for our head table at the wedding), bakeware, flatware, cookbooks, etc. I also registered for our toasting flutes and cake server, luggage, sheets and a vaccuum. How about a small flat screen for the kitchen, new DVD player, digital camera for the honeymoon?

Once you really start to think about it, you'll come up with more stuff you want and need than you think.

We, too, have most everything we need - there are a few upgrades we can do for linens and towels, but mostly what we need are outdoor things like a snowblower, little tractor and stuff like that.
What do you ya'll think about registering at Home Depot or similar in addition to the more traditional BBB and/or Crate & Barrel?
