Invitations - When to send?

Happy Wednesday,

Question regarding invitations... I know the standard is 6 weeks prior, but we have some people that are from out of state (we did do the save the dates a year out, but there are of course some people who haven't made hotel accommodations yet). How early is too early to do invitations? My hotel cut-off is August 30th and my wedding is 10/22/11...is early to mid August too early? Help!  :-)

I would send them out early August, to give guests time to book rooms.

Many brides in your shoes choose to send out Save-The-Dates that provide OOTers the information needed to make the necessary arrangements. If you don't do STDs, I would set up a simple wedding site (through google, weddingwire, my wedding, etc) with the travel/accommodation information and email the link to your friends. And then follow-up with as many as you can to be sure they got things sorted. I wouldn't send out invitations more than 10 weeks in advance.

Yeah - I had a bunch of stragglers, too. I decided to reserve 5 rooms in my name under the hotel block and then I cancelled any extra rooms before I would incur any cancellation fees (which, for me was the day before the wedding). Out of the 5, I wound up needing 3 of them - so you're wise to plan in advance!
