Wedding Woes

I hate my HOA

They sent us letters saying our front yard was in violation. We paid the fine, but let them know it was because our irrigation system was broken. Someone came and fixed it, plus cleaned it up. That was a week a go, and today we got another letter that a bush was dead and we owe another $50 fine. I really want to call them and tell them to fvck off. I get that we agreed to it by owning our house here, but cut is a freaking break. Plants arent going to regrow overnight.

They are so damn fine happy. They once tried to fine us $200 because people were parking on our street curb. It was our neighbor's contractors and he was having work done on his house.

HOAs suck. I will never again live in a neighborhood with an HOA. I'd rather have hoarders for neighbors. My HOA once tried to fine me for a problem with my roof that they wouldn't have known about unless they'd climbed on my roof. I was livid.

I have never ever heard of a single person liking their HOA. It is one of the reasons we were so vehemently anti-subdivision when we moved.

[QUOTE]what are you supposed to do about the dead bush?

I'm sure she was supposed to dig it up and replace it with a new, healthy bush for a couple of hundred bucks.

I honestly don't think it's dead, and I'm not even sure if the bush I think they are referencing is the one they are actually calling dead.

    LOL @ Zzilla.

HOA's need to EABOD and DIAF.   They're nothing but costly nuisances.

    ^this.

our HOA is inconsistent - we went 2 weeks without cutting our lawn this past spring and got a nastygram with the threat of a fine and having a lawn service come out at our expense. (DK had actually cut it the day we got the letter so we just laughed at it..) a week later we got another saying that there were weeds growing in the cracks of our driveway -

yet there are 2 houses down the street from us that are up for sale:  one has a half dead tree in the front yard that dropped a huge branch (10+ft long) and a ton of smaller ones during a storm that sat there for MONTHS and another had the lawn over a foot long for several weeks, and nada.

    Dang!

Maybe I need to create a fake HOA letter about our fence to give to my H.  Although money doesn't phase him.  He wouldn't care if we had to pay thousands in fines.  It still wouldn't prompt him to get this damn fence arranged.

I am going to write them a letter and I won't pay this fine. I think part of it is that there are so many houses in our neighborhood that are in foreclosure, being short sales, etc. in those cases, I don't think anyone is paying the HOA.

We just bought a condo in a great, small community--all the neighbors are great, but the HOA SUCKS!  When we were trying to schedule our move-in, the woman asked us to fill out the paperwork and return to her.  She then told me I wasn't supposed to fill it out completely and asked me to re-do it and resend it.  That meant I had to write my name on the top of the paper and rescan and resend--as if she couldn't just write my name on it for me.

Then, she wouldn't get back to us to schedule our move in, and claimed we had unpaid dues since the previous owner cancelled a check on them.  After we paid everything, including our move-in fee, at closing.  She then refused to email us back, and we moved in anyways.  I then got an email from her the next week saying we were all scheduled for move-in and that she wasn't sure why we were confused since she settled everything with our agent regarding the outstanding fees the week before.  Unfortunately, he had never spoken to her despite numerous messages. I concluded she was just a lying b*tch.

We still hadn't received our coupons for paying our monthly HOA fee and didn't want to be late, especially since we're new residents.  So I finally had to cave in and email the b*itch to ask about them, and 4 days later she hadn't emailed me back.  So I emailed again, and got a response back from the bookkeeper, who seemed great (I guess the B*itch had forwarded my email).  I read something today about a new POC at the HOA--I think the lady got fired!  Karma.

The HOA was in charge of your moving schedule?!

    Have fun living there.

Our HOA can't enforce anything. The only way to do that would be to go to court and they don't have the money for it.  All our dues go to keep up the 3 entrances to our development (flowers/shrubs/trees, watering/mowing, seasonal lighting etc) For the most part though people do adhere to the rules but the rules we have do help keep the value up on our homes.

I guess I should have made it clearer that the Condo Board is GREAT, the management company leaves something to be desired.

Technically you have to schedule a move-in--I think its mostly so that they can ensure that the elevator pads are up and that someone is there to guide residents in and out of the garage, since it's a small building and you need to use the exit for the moving truck.  This is pretty standard for condo buildings with shared entrances and elevators.

It ended up working out just fine, and the Condo Board is GREAT and was very helpful throughout. They knew we'd been having issues with the management company, and apparently had been trying to get this lady replaced for months, so I think our experience was the final straw (and hence they let it play out so they'd have more leverage with the management company to get a new community manager POC).
