All these chicks on Just Engaged literally just got engaged over Christmas and already have tickers? Don't you need to visit vendors and finalize dates?
It took 3 months after getting engaged for us to finalize our wedding date. And we started looking at venues within days of getting engaged (we got engaged on vacation and wanted to look at venues while we were still on vacay).

Meh. They're just silly intarwebz tickers if you ask me. They can be changed if need be. They're excited and jumping the gun a little. It's only natural. They'll calm down.
I will say, though, that we picked a date before we picked a venue. We got married on our dating anniversary, and we eliminated venues that didn't have our date available. We wouldn't consider another date.

Yes, TK does make you do this. It just seems really naive to me "OMG HE PROPOSED YESTERDAI I LOVE MY [INSERT CARAT] CUSTOM DESIGNED RING" and then they have a ticker that says "6 months to go!" or whatever. I must be bitter and jealous that I didn't get a Christmas proposal.

Some people choose the venue based on the date and others choose the date based on the venue. FI and I did the latter, but there's nothing wrong with either way.
And I think it's pretty safe to say that a lot of newly engageds have a general idea of a date they are looking for before they got engaged, but I do think it's jumping the gun a bit to have a ticker in your siggy before you have a 'confirmed' date...which doesn't happen until you book a venue. I guess it's good they came to the knot though, who better to knock them back down to reality than us? LOL.
I think it's one of the first things people latch on to. It isn't logical, unless a specific date is a priority for you, which I understand then like Saisong. But those things change. It's like a lot of girls that post an intro thread on here with a wedding date when they aren't engaged yet.
GPB it makes me feel like a slacker... but hey procrastination is a second career for me. Sounds like all of them are jumping the gun. I can't fathom a wedding ticker that has a count down over a yeah and a half. I don't think I'll end up nailing a wedding date till Spring of next year. Since I don't plan on getting hitched till spring of 2012. Anyone a Spring 2012 bride, I don't want to be alone. Well no I want all of Spring to be about ME!!!!!! Look at me, pay attention to ME!!!!
I had a ticker, before the ring... but we picked the date and bought the ring on the same day.. i just had to wait 3 months to get it!.. our date was based on when we could get the reception venue.. we picked the month, they told us when the venue was availble.. it was really important to FI that we have the reception there- and alot more affordable.. The reception venue was lucky that it came availble a few days after i was looking into it.. it had previously been booked... Some people just get a little ahead of our selves.. I may have already had the dress picked out too.. but that was all that I was going to do until the ring was on my finger.. some of us freshly officially engaged folks just get a little a head of our selves.. but know its comming at some point...
My SIL picked a wedding date with her fiance very shortly after getting engaged. It was super easy for them, and they will find a venue to cater to their date choice or they will change there date if need be.
