<div>I know. Thankfully this time I got it in the arm. Last time was the ass. As much cushion as there is there, it hurt more than the arm. </div>

  • Shots in the ass are the worst.  THE WORST.

Especially if you get sore.  You can sort of avoid using your arm.  You can't really avoid sitting on your ass.

  • I got a shot in the ass when I was 5 due to pneumonia. I don't remember much from that time, but the shot, I do remember that. And barfing in the hospital hallway.

Denise, I lecture H when he falls asleep during movies. It's a weird pet peeve of mine. My mom fell asleep when watching Finding Neverland and to this day I refuse to watch it with her again, even though she wants to see it.

Nebb - I stay within points most every week.  I tried to do the 26 but was always at 27, 28, or 29 so I adjusted mytools or whatever it's called and went back to 29.  I've been a slacker as far as exercise goes, but I did shovel snow 2x yesterday.  Next week I'm going to try less yogurt and more fruit for my lunches.  Also I eat late on my evening shift days and that doesn't help either the pharangeal reflux I have or my weight watchers.

KD - The pharmacist told me Flonase has steriod in it, but she said "it should not make you gain weight."  Whatever.  How are you doing with WW?  I still bust out that chicken chili taco recipe you gave me.  Everyone loves it.  I like many of the WW  and skinnytaste recipes I try.  H2 likes them as well.  I tried a mac n cheese recipe last week end from WW - it was excellent.  It used gemelli pasta and had broccoli in it.
  • Wait, I just want to clarify - do you just eat yogurt or fruit for lunch? I get 30pts per day and I usually always hit it or go one or two over, but ive been doing a lot better since I started having big big salads at lunch and getting more fiber. Maybe just switching up your meals a bit might help balance the points out a bit. See if that helps?
  • Sesh, I am the worst with that. I can fall asleep anywhere, anytime. It is horrible. They used to joke that I was the narcoleptic girl in "Deuce Bigalow, Male Gigolo" and he lectures me about it all the time. We will flip through the channels and a movie will be on. I will tell him to leave it, but he will tell me we already saw it. I will argue it and he will say, "You probably fell asleep like you do on every movie."

  • Good morning, ladies.

Sesh - the Help is a great movie, imo.  Definitely worth renting.

Hi CS!  Haven't seen you around in a while.

Nala eats her own poop too.  Hers and horse poop, no one else's.  She seems to prefer the frozen poop-sicles over the summertime warm piles.  I have to pick up more often in the winter because she'll dig them out of the snow.  The tablets I bought at PetsMart didn't work.

Nebb - I have the yogurt or fruit in addition to a bowl of soup or half a sandwich.  I think you are correct; I need to change things up.  I love salads but hate putting them together.  If we go out for dinner, I will order an entree salad and keep part of it for lunch the next day, but we haven't gone out very much lately.

Other than salads, what other sorts of food do you take for lunch?

I usually have a soy protein shake for breakfast, almonds as a snack at about 11am, lunch at 12:30 is a salad with chicken in it (i saute up 2 chicken breasts on sunday and divide it into my salads through the week, it usually lasts until thursday, I should also point out that I buy a 5pack of romaine hearts at costco every week and each salad is one of them chopped up, it makes a pretty big salad), an unsweetened applesauce, a banana or pear. Later in the day I will usually eat another fruit, and then later I will have celery and a laughing cow cheese wedge. Dinner is usually meat (chicken, pork chop or steak), potatoes with some sour cream ontop and steamed veggies.

I WAS eating a sandwich at lunch a while ago but I found it was using up more of my points than I liked and I was going over regularly so I switched back to eating salads and I find I have more room to play around with my points. Generally by the end of the day I have 3-4 left over now and usually use that for dessert or something.
  • My breakfasts are usually on on Wed. Thurs, and Sun mornings and I mix up vanilla yogurt with high fiber cereal.  Sometimes on Sun H2 and I will have eggs or a pancake.  The other mornings I have to be at the clinic early so I typically will bring a banana and some nuts to snack on between patients in the morning.  Lunch is mostly a small sandwich (I buy those round really thin bun-like things with a piece of cheese and a piece of ham or turkey = 5 pts) and either a yogurt or piece of fruit.  Dinner when not working is almost always a recipe from WW or skinnytaste.com and then I'll have a piece of sweet for later.  I'm not supposed to have chocolate anymore due to this other health business I have going on so I will again HAVE YOGURT.  (I am now loving Oikos)  I think it's too much dairy and it's bloating me.

I'm going to try the salads this week - at least 3 days instead of soup or sandwich and let you know what happens at next weigh in.

BTW - do you use any type of dressing or oils on your salads?

    Thanks for your help.
  • No problem at all!! I have struggled with WW too and I have just found in the past 3 weeks (since I started doing salads again and trying to eat more filling foods) ive been doing a lot better with it. I use a yogurt caesar dressing, its less calories than regular or even low fat caesar dressing and super tasty. I saute the chicken with creole seasoning, mustard and garlic for extra flavour too.

<div>Butting in...that sounds really good! I've never heard of it.  What brand do you use/where do you get it from? I may need to try it.</div>

  • Hey good idea Nebb - seasoning the chicken.  I bet I would probably even forego the dressing if the chix was seasoned enough. Chicken breasts were on sale at our local last week so H and I bagged them up individually so this will work!  Okay, I'm hyped for a good week......and you have one too!
  • LP - our local groceries in Chicago area carry yogurt based salad dressings.  Maybe yours does as well.

<div>Apparently all of my memories from being 4-5 revolve around traumatic things.  When I was first diagnosed with my hearing loss, I had to have tons of blood work done so they could do some tests to figure out the cause. I had 5 tubes of blood drawn and I was SO upset.  Then when it was finally over and we were in the car leaving the parking lot, one of the nurses came running out and knocked on the car window.  She told my mom that someone had dropped one of the tubes on the floor, so I had to go back in and have another one drawn.  I'm fairly certain this experience is why I am TERRIFIED of needles still.  </div><div>
</div><div>And after all of that, they couldn't even figure out the cause of it.  Actually, we still haven't to this day. </div>

  • Marrin, I will have to look.  I don't recall ever seeing any, but then again I've never actively looked for it and don't buy salad dressing very often.

I've lived in Chicago before, too - I would move back in a heartbeat if I could convince H that its not too cold/it wasn't so damn expensive.

  • Yay im glad I could help! Let me know how the next week goes :)
  • Marrin- we're in the Northern burbs of the Twin Cities. I think the towns only 20-30 minutes south of us got more like 4-5 inches though. and ditto KD... Flonase can cause weight gain? The nasal spray?
  • LP - I love Chicago.  Actually the city more than the suburbs.  I moved to the western suburbs when H and I got serious.  I've always felt a little "off" out here; I just like the energy of the city.  But yeah, it IS expensive.  My son lives in Wrigleyville while in school but luckily he lives in the building that his dad and family own so it costs him basically nothing for a small studio.

Nebb - you have a good week as well!

Steph - re Flonase.  It's what the pharmacist told me.  My PCP had rx'ed it previously a while back and she told me it did not have steroids but pharmacist told me it did, and now again she told me the same.  of course tho her caveat was that "everyone is different." Last time I gained some weight after being on it, but PCP also put me on Cymbalta a couple of weeks later so it could have been a combo of the two drugs.
  • I lived in the city in Lincoln Park while I was doing my grad internship. I LOVED it. I actually got a really good deal - I found someone looking to sublet their studio for the exact time frame that I needed for $850 a month.  It was pretty small - about 400 square feet - but it was only for a semester and I didn't want to move a ton of furniture anyway, so it worked out perfectly.

Though I did have a car because I did home visits as part of my internship and public transportation took too long sometimes.  Once I managed to freeze my tires to the ground because I stupidly parked in a puddle overnight and it froze.  Oops...

I live in a small suburb of Raleigh now where I have to drive 15 minutes to get to the grocery store.  I do like some things about living here, but I miss city life like whoa sometimes.

  • $850 a month in Lincoln Park I'm sure was a steal at the time.  I think son's dad charges like $1800 per month for a 2 bedroom apt in their building and the guys who live there consider THAT a steal for the area.

I have the same thing in the suburbs LP - have to get into the car to get anywhere.  But this is where H2 grew up, where his business is, and his life so here I am.
