I used to love to hear the stories my granny and her friends would tell. It's so interesting to hear how life used to be.
H's grandmother grew up in Germany. She likes to tell us stories about hitler lol. He used to visit schools in Germany, she said it was like meeting a celebrity. So strange
I just do not get the appeal. It does not look like fun to me.
What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests. Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
Good to know, Tory (my pup) just got spayed but she is a puppy so I can't really gauge how much calmer she is yet, haha. She is getting pretty well trained by my FI for hunting so I think that may aide in her calming abilities.
Nope, I've never been to NYE on Times Square. It doesn't really appeal to me, and I know that H would hate it. I've done NYE in Las Vegas, and that was crazy enough. I think I'd rather have my champagne at home with friends.
DH use to work at a restaurant on Times Square. He had to report to work at 9am in order to beat the crowds for NYE night. He hated it. They even had to give him a room the night of NYE because they could not get out because of the crowd (it was in a hotel).
I can honestly say that experience is not on my bucket list.

I'm tired too but I think it has something to do with all the medicine I'm taking to get over this cold. I am determined to go shopping tomorrow, I haven't seen the friend I made plans with in ages, and I want to be better!
I totally agree!! When I had my cold I was MISERABLE. My boss gave me Shiit for staying home one day and her exact words were "it's not like you have the flu" grrr
I'm back from Black Swan. It was just okay to me. Natalie Portman was pretty good - she's in every scene, since the movie is told from her PoV, so it was an intense role. But I think Darren Aronofsky is a bit pretentious. It just wasn't as deep or amazing as everyone said. I won't be disturbed by it or thinking about it all night.
Now True Grit? I'd see again. That movie was fabulous.
you get use to the prices... But when you go back to the states you buy everything because it's so cheap.

If we're trying to get to 2011 by 2011, what time zone are we going off of? Cause it's only 7:30 here, plenty of time, but it's already 2011 in England, in which case we missed it.

<div>I have a friend whose mother was German. The part she lived in is now a part of Poland. Anyway, this friend's father was an American GI. He helped liberate one of the concentration camps and would have nightmares for years where he'd wake up screaming. He met her mother in Germany and she's told me, "I don't know why he married my mother. I mean, she was <em>German</em>." Lol. </div><div> </div><div>I miss my grandmother. She would tell me stories like how she and my grandfather used to go to the movies when they were dating, back when movies cost $.25, so they would save up $1 during the week and buy popcorn, too. And during the early years of the war when rubber and gas were rationed and you were really only supposed to use it for work, they'd sneak the car down to the train station and take the train into Buffalo to go to hockey games. In retrospect she was pretty amazing. My grandfather left for the navy when my aunt was 2 weeks old. My grandmother was 21 and she was alone with a baby while her husband was fighting in a war for 2.5 years. And my grandmother's brother and 5 of my grandfather's siblings were in the military as well.</div>

Yeah, I think we should just stop as soon as we get to to 2011 posts.
