Difference between makeup?

I plan on doing my own makeup for my wedding, but everyone tells me there's a difference between the two. There doesn't seem to be a difference to me from what I have seen.  What is the difference between everyday makeup and wedding makeup? Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance!

Re: Difference between makeup?

  • there's not really a difference. I'm doing my own, and aside from my foundation, all my products are staying the same as my normal every day makeup. my foundation is one that is a photography foundation (Smashbox Camera Ready) so I don't look like a ghost in pictures. but otherwise, I'm wearing my normal blush, my normal eyeliner, my normal waterproof mascara, etc and so forth. I'm just spraying a fixing spray on top to make it last and last (and last it does!).

  • To echo PP, it really depends what you're used to for every day wear. If you have great skin, you probably don't have many concerns about the camera picking up your flaws.  I don't have the best skin so I am pretty concerned with coverage, and frankly I want to be pampered (haha) so I am having a makeup artist. (When else in my life am I going to get away with using a makeup artist?!)

Also, many people discourage using mineral makeup for a wedding because something in the ingridients makes you appear really washed out in photos/makes kind of a white ghost-like glare.

Something to consider is going to your favorite makeup counter or a place like Sephora and getting a tutorial so that you're confident on the day of doing it yourself. They can help you build a nice wedding day look.
  • Some people don't wear much makeup on a daily basis but want a fully made up face for their wedding day.  In that case there's a big difference.  If you're confident with the way you apply your makeup, do it regularly and like the way it photographs then there prob is'nt a big difference for you.  Personally, I'm having my makeup done for the the simple reason that I want to aleviate as much stress as possible on my wedding day.
  • It's great to do your own make-up! I love doing my make-up and am a product junkie.  The main thing that I would bring up for you to consider is that a make-up artist knows how to do your make-up for your wedding pictures and there are people who specialize in wedding-day make-up.  I think it makes a great deal of difference... but that is something I would notice about myself.  So it really depends on you.  One other thing to consider is airbrush make-up --  my make-up girl uses airbursh foundation and it stays on ALL day.  The other make-up is the same.  We used her for my sister's wedding and I was throrougly impressed and we all looked amazing in her pictures (even at the end of the long day and night when I would usually am not looking so hot... lol).
Either way you look beautiful on your wedding day -- I just wanted to put my two cents in.  :)

  • I watched some makeup videos on you tube from Kandee, the makeup artist.  I went heavier on my eye shadow, blush and eye liner!  Not nearly as heavy in colors as the makeup artists were trying on me, so in doing my own makeup on the big day I used my own colors, browns, golds, pinks and tans.  I think it looks natural in the pics, even though I actually wore more, but I am happy with the way my makeup turned out! Oh and I was told to use extra powder, NO shine on the face!
