Groom vs groomsmen

Hi all! We are having a small wedding party and are considering having my fiancé and his two groomsmen wear different colored suits. My fiancé wants to wear a light gray suit and his two groomsmen wear black. They would all wear purple matching ties. My bridesmaids are wearing a black cocktail dress. Thoughts!? Thanks!!

  • Actually, I think that would look very nice. I say go for it.

  • I think this would look fine.  The groom can be different from the groomsmen and it does look nice if there is still something (like the ties in your case) to pull them together.  If you want to, perhaps you could bring in some of the purple for your bridesmaids with any flowers they might be carrying.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • My DH wore a white dinner jacket and his GMs wore black suits (my BMs wore LBDs of their choosing, too).  Looked fine...I liked that he stood out just like I did....

  • This is totally fine! H wore a slightly different style tux with pinstripes and the groomsmen wore a different style and solid color.  My friends wedding her H wore a totally different color from the groomsmen and it looked very good!!!

  • Thanks everyone!!
  • I actually prefer for the groom and groomsmen not to be matchy-matchy.

That said, good call. Though, I would suggest charcoal grey or navy blue rather than black. Those are still different enough from your groom without being so somber.
