The DRESS!

How do I decide?  I have tried on several dresses, and I have found at least 5 that I like(all within my budget).  I haven't been blown away by anything I put on like I thought I would be.  My wedding isn't until April 2011, so I still plenty of time but I feel like the dress choosing shouldn't be this hard.  How do I decide if I like all of them equally?  I need advice!  Thanks to anyone who can help!

Re: The DRESS!

  • finding the dress is ridiculousy difficult for some people, it was for me, just take your time and I'd say keep looking don't settle for a dress you don't totally love, because that just leads to second thoughts later trust me I know from firsthand experience
  • Yes, first and foremost, don't settle.  I believe that some girls just don't get that "WOW, this is MY dress" factor... I don't think I will.  Keep in mind while trying on: Can you see yourself walking down the aisle in it?  Do you love how it looks/feels?  Can you afford it?  Just think of things like that if you don't get the "wow factor"  You'll find something you love!
  • Take your time.  You don't have to make a decision until later this year.  I was lucky and found my dress at the first (and only) shop I went to.  Having said that, I wish I had gone to more places to have "the experience." HOWEVER, I know, had I done that I would have added to my confusion.  I tried on 7 or 8 dresses and they all started to look the same, so I can only imagine what would've happened had I tried on more.

I didn't cry.  I didn't start screaming.  I just felt really pretty in the one I picked and couldn't stop smiling.  My bridesmaid didn't really like it, but I did, and that's all that matters.

It's too early for you to be freaking out. :)
  • I was the same way. I found many that I liked and I apparently have a good "bridal body", so nothing looked horrible on me. For me, I figured out what I liked about each dress that I was deciding between. They were able to find something that was essentially a mixture of what I liked.

I didn't cry, I didn't get the "OMG!" feeling. But I felt comfortable, and I was smiling a lot more. Everyone noticed I was more comfortable and started acting more like myself.

You have plenty of time, but it's good to do your dress shopping close together so you remember everything correctly.

Good luck and I know you'll find "THE one"
  • I was torn between a few dresses and in the end I let my dad tell me which looked the best on me.  He's always had good taste and went with me to pick out my prom dresses so I knew I could trust his opinion.

  • I spent months looking at dresses online and fell in love with a purple Maggie Sottero dress... when I went to buy the dress I found out that they discontinued my dream gown so I had to resort to extreme measures.... I hired a dressmaker to make my dream gown... I CAN NOT WAIT UNTIL IT IS DONE!!!!

  • when i tried on dresses i kept on saying "oooo i like this one" and the lady helping me said that im suppose to love my wedding dress, not like it. she also told me when i ask to see it with the accessories (veil, tiara, ect) thats when you know you might have found the one, when you want to see the whole picure. HTH
  • I had a ridiculously hard time dress shopping- I never did get that "THE DRESS" feeling so many people talk about- but I do love my dress!

It ended up coming down to 2 that I really couldn't decide between, my best friend helped me pick LOL

Keep shopping, you have TONS of time (I ended up ordering just 7 months before our wedding- and I had plenty of time to get the dress in and start alterations!)
