I'm dumb and feeling pathetic

So I got so excited about this Mad Men house party thing.  I got an e-mail saying that I would be selected as a host if I would go ahead and invite 10 people.  So I did it. Then the section where previously it had said that you would be sent box of goodies including character masks, cocktail shakers and glasses, a game, a DVD and some other stuff now just includes a list of links to download PDF versions of those character masks and games.  So basically they recruited a bunch of people, got too many responses and then just decided to scrap the best part of it and give people a bunch of dumb pdf files. 

And now I've invited a bunch of people to my house to watch TV and I'm fairly sure they are all confused as to why I would do that.  And just in case some of them decide to actually come (but I know most of them won't, they have kids and can't be hanging out with me at 9pm on a Sunday night or they don't watch the show and think that I am nutso for being excited enough to throw my crappy version of a party) I have to figure out how to seat more than three people near our TV and possibly also get new carpet in there by then. 

So dumb.  This is what I get for being optimistic about my social capabilities.

    i suggest just mad menning it up on your own. no reason why you can't still have a cool mad men party. i know it sucks, but you can still go out and buy the props that you were originally getting for free.

    I'm just thinking that is seomeon sent me an invitation to a RHOwhatever party I would be giving it the side eye.  Why do they think I watch that show? Who do they think I am?  And why would I want to watch TV in their nasty dog hair house? I hate them!  Screw them!  I'm burning down their dog hair house tonight!

    oh please. those are just excuses, zsazsa. it's like when H watches a sport thing and invites a friend or two over to watch with him. sure they don't wear masks and drink dirty martinis, but it's the same thing. if people think you live in a dog hair house, i am sure they wouldn;t be friends with you anyway.

    a bunch of people i know had SATC parties. those are worse. so are the candle selling parties. at least you aren;t selling anything to your friends.

    well, maybe you can make it a two-fer and also host a pleasure party at the same time. you do you, girl!

    You are WAY too hard on yourself.  If they show up, it's b/c they probably like the show and you, so want to experience those things.

    FWIW, we've had multiple Rock Band parties with upwards of 30 people.  I DO NOT have 30 chairs or 30 sightlines to the television.  I don't know that I can really argue we can comfortably host 30+ people with only one bathroom.  I do have 2 dogs and 2 cats We usually have to move out a coffee and an end table and the four people playing, plus drums and vocalists are crammed in probably a 10 by 4 foot rectangle with everyone stealing the chairs/seats available or just sitting on the danged floor.

    As far as I know, people have a great time, b/c they keep coming back when invited.  So just plan a party for YOU to have fun.  The people you invited will see that, feel it and have a blast.

    Vodka helps both you and them, btw.  And if I lived closer, I would come to your Mad Men party.  :)

    It'll be OK. You have time. I can come to your house. I'll get drunk by 9 and passed out so you don't have to worry about a spot for me in front of the TV :)

    How far are you from Columbus?  I would totally come!!! And no one gives a crap about dog hair.   I'm a bit confused about the house party thing...   I wonder what happened there.   I've done a house party before and it seemed like it was really well organized.   I'm surprised they flaked out.

    You are not the dumb one, the house party people are.  Like everyone else said- nobody cares about the dog hair they just want to be with you.  I've never seen the show, but I'd totally carpool with AF.

    AF & 6 - It's only a 7 hour drive.  You can watch some TV with me and then be home in time for breakfast!  :)
