This brought me to tears and I just wanted to share this gift. The couple gave it to my parents on church Sunday and my parents gave it to us when we went to their house for dinner last night. The gift is an olive wood carving and the couple who gave it to us has been married for 67 years. They moved into assisted living a few years ago, but their son still brings them to church every week. They included a note with the gift and that is what I'd like to share:
"We gave a lot of thought to what we would give such a special couple for a wedding present. We wanted it to be meaningful, unique, something that would last. So we chose to "share" with you this carving we purchased in Israel some 30 years ago when we were there. It epitomizes to us and hopefully now to you so much of what He was all about - caring for others and a lasting love. We couldn't think of a better time or a better couple to now enjoy the pleasure it has given to us. We hope you will keep it close to your hearts and enjoy it through a long and happy married life."
Thanks for letting me share...my camera isn't charged, so I don't have a picture of the carving. It's very simple, about 10 inches tall - just a woman carrying a water jug on her head and standing next to a well. It's already on display in our home.

I don't have signatures enabled at work, so I totally lose track of these things.
Okay, I'll give you until after the wedding, then.

How are you doing excitement-wise, Angie? I'm sure I would be freaking out and bouncing off the walls if I were getting married in 11 days!

I'm pretty calm for the most part. Don't get me wrong, I've had my "moments" over the past 7 months. FI has given me a quota of how much I can talk about the wedding each day, if I reach his quota, he just says "quota" and gets me to go talk to one of my friends or my mom. He tried to pull the quota thing yesterday, but I wouldn't let him. He knew that yesterday was a major last minute planning day (mom and I made our last minute lists - what do we need to take when and where; who has what/who is bring what to each event...what time does everyone need to be there...all that fun stuff).
I'm going today to get "hello my name is" badges for the RD - there are about 36 of us going to be there and I haven't met 3 of his GMs (they live in another state), so thought it would be a good idea to have the name stickers. It's kind of weird to realize that this is really my last wedding shopping trip since we have everything else.
The only real things I have left to do are to finish the memorial picture (and all I have left to do on that is to actually adhere the picture to the background and clean the glass of all my fingerprints); make a tent card to go next to the programs & guest book that will go with a picture of my grandmothers - it will say something along the lines of "since we couldn't travel to be there for our granddaughter's wedding, we sent our pictures instead - please sign their guest book and take a program and enjoy yourself"; and I have to remember to walk in my shoes at least 15 minutes every day - that's the big one.
I'll stop rambling now <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" />
Life is good today.
