This brought me to tears and I just wanted to share this gift. The couple gave it to my parents on church Sunday and my parents gave it to us when we went to their house for dinner last night. The gift is an olive wood carving and the couple who gave it to us has been married for 67 years. They moved into assisted living a few years ago, but their son still brings them to church every week. They included a note with the gift and that is what I'd like to share:
"We gave a lot of thought to what we would give such a special couple for a wedding present. We wanted it to be meaningful, unique, something that would last. So we chose to "share" with you this carving we purchased in Israel some 30 years ago when we were there. It epitomizes to us and hopefully now to you so much of what He was all about - caring for others and a lasting love. We couldn't think of a better time or a better couple to now enjoy the pleasure it has given to us. We hope you will keep it close to your hearts and enjoy it through a long and happy married life."
Thanks for letting me share...my camera isn't charged, so I don't have a picture of the carving. It's very simple, about 10 inches tall - just a woman carrying a water jug on her head and standing next to a well. It's already on display in our home.
