Invitation issues?

I just finished a term paper and now I can't sleep, so I'll post instead!

FI is bringing one of our spare invitations to work tomorrow to show one of his coworkers because she asked to see it.  She's getting married at the very end of May, and doesn't have her invites yet because the printer she chose has been delaying them.  I can't even imagine - they clearly should have been out several weeks ago at this point, and not only is she still waiting on them, but they're doing all of her envelopes and such too so she can't even personally prepare to get them!  To compensate for the delay the company is offering her free inner envelopes, which she didn't even want in the first place.  I hope for her sake she gets it sorted out soon!

I seem to recall others here experienced issues with their invitations and such as well - does anyone, by any chance, have any recommendations for how to handle this?  Maybe something equivalent she could demand in place of the inner envelopes, or a way she can prepare to get those invitations out ASAP?  I can certainly pass them along to FI to help her out!

Re: Invitation issues?

  • Wow. That's horrible. I haven't had any issues like that, but I would think that since she doesn't even want the inner envelopes, asking for a discount in the amount of what the inner envelopes cost would be the best bet. I hope she gets it worked out soon.
  • I would ask for a full refund and buy a stock invite just to get them out! It's already April 19th!

  • Exactly HOW late are the printers? Like, are they two weeks late or 2 months late? When did she order them? I would honestly ask for a refund and go to Michael's or somewhere similar and grab some and get them out NOW. Or, maaaaybe order a stock invite from VP and pay for crazy fast shipping. She's in a tough place. If I ordered beautiful invitations that I fell in love with and had to use store bought ones, I'd be annoyed. At this point, if it were me, I'd go straight to Michael's and work my fingers to the bone and get them out tomorrow at the latest. I'm really sorry she's having this problem!

  • Wow. That would stress me out so much! How leat were they?? I would probably try to get a full refund...if not maybe get some Thank-you notes for free?? Or some other wedding printed items--menus, place cards etc--for free.

  • I'm not in a totally similar situation but my wedding is june 16 and my invites will go out today the invites took so long because they were custom and i paid for calligraphy. Calligraphy never happened and I got printed envelopes. I tried to ask for the money I paid for calligraphy back or at least towards another service but it didn't happen (another story)
(PS hi i'm new but getting married in 2 months holy crap!)

Anyways, If she can't get a refund i'd tell the printer not to send the envelopes but to provide another service like Thank You cards or Escord cards

  • A free inner envelope is nothing-it really depends on how delayed they are, and the reason for the delay. If it's100% the vendor's fault, then they should refund at least half of her money. If the delay is because the customer keeps changing things or failing to provide the information in time, theyn there isn't much she can do.

At this point, if she can't get the invitations this week I would just be DIYing them myself.
