Is This Tacky? I need everyone's honest opinion

Okay, so I really want to save money on my wedding, so I was thinking about things that I could cut out that wont make a big difference on the outcome of the event as a whole. So I was thinking about having a centerpiece on the sweetheart table only. I don't think people will be like, " No centerpieces on the tables?! What a trollop!" What do you think? The tables will have linen and candles on them. I feel like its a waste of money to spend hundreds on flowers for one day... I wont even get to take them home!

I don't necessarily think it's tacky but it would be nice to have a focal point for guests to stare at while they're eating/talking, etc.

You could definitely have an alternative on the table that are FAR more cost effective. Depending on your theme or the mood you want to have, you could use just candles of different lengths. There is the idea of submerging fruit in glass bowls. I've seen feathers done also and that can make the atmosphere more festive.

You could also have a picture frame on the table with a pic of you and FI with a candle next to it. With that idea, you could probably add a story or include an interesting fact about the two of you to the side of the pic .

If you're not completely opposed to eliminating flowers totally... here's something you can do with not that many flowers...

And yes, if you just just wanted flowers for the sweetheart table, I don't think that's a problem.

I agree with Panda, I think there needs to be something on the table. It definitely doesn't have to be flowers. How about using candles? You can order the vases/containers from http://www.dollartree.com for pretty cheap.

No problem... I'm not a big flower person myself and I personally LOVE the fruit in the vase idea (which I'll be using). Flowers are ridiculously priced for weddings!

But one of my co-workers who is also getting married told me the trick is to tell a florist that the flowers are for an "event". That way you'll get a different, less expensive pricing chart for the same product.

Not that it is tacky but it will be like something is missing. Maybe you can do something like candles that's not inclusive of flowers so it doesn't bring your cost up.

I agree w/ everyone as well. But I am big on water and candles. And I'm a fan of hobby lobby's sales. You could use vases @ different heights (2 to 3 per table); add food coloring to the water, drop a floating candle on top (maybe floralytes in the water to make it glow), and surround by votive candles on the table. There u've added height, drama, and did't break the bank. It's actually very intimate and creates a romantic mood.

I agree with everyone else. I like the look of feathers and candles. I think that would look nice with your winter theme.

Desi, you know where I am on this. I don't think anything is wrong with it. When you go to weddings you only think about the centerpieces for about the first 5 min. And the bigger ones actually get in the way. Once people start eating, talking, and having a good time- who cares about that! I like the idea of maybe roses on the table, because it would be some type of decoration, but, then plates are going to be set on top of it. I know sooo many people that regret spending so much money on their weddings and not putting it on their future. At the end of the day- you will be throwing something away or packing it up in a box and putting it in your garage- or selling it on the knot! LOL. Do what you want because you can spend $1 or $1000 people are still going to have something to say.

You are 100% correct--nobody ever remembers centerpieces and spending 2000 bucks on them is beyond ridiculous imho.

That said, I agree with pp about using other elements to add height and drama for cheap. different sized vases, candles, even petals of flowers would work just fine. Nobody will miss it. Nobody misses favors either, so feel free to leave those out too if you like! Nobody got favors at ours and nobody missed it. We did an afterparty so we counted that as our favor!

If you're having candles on the tables than those are your centerpieces. A centerpiece doesn't have to be flowers.
