Mornin'

Re: Mornin'

• Haha Duds, that's funny. My mom says certain things that make me shudder. If she only knew what people today think of when they hear those words.

Also, I posted this in another thread but Google's Doodle this am made me happy. It's interactive!
• Mehg, I love "useless" trivia so it's all good!

Pirate, I'm just being irrational. The funny thing is that I know I am being ridiculous and I just can't stop. Pathetic party of one?

DJ, FSIL was at my bridal shower this weekend. She made her famous hostess cupcakes that are super delicious. As soon as she, FMIL, and other FSIL left everyone kept coming up to me and telling me how wonderful and gorgeous she is and that she is so in shape and asked me if she ate because her dress just fit so perfectly. Fine, whatever. Then after my shower when I get texts about her and when my mother keeps telling me how stunningly gorgeous she is and ends it with it being okay because I'm "petite and cute" or whatever she said, I have had MORE than enough.
• Mehg, I think I read (it may have been another of his books, but I'm pretty sure it's Carrie) that he tried to get it published and one company said it would never sell, because there was no market for angst-ridden teenagers who kill people. He sold it to another company a couple months later and sold millions within weeks.

LBarr, I have a friend like that. She is gorgeous, tall, funny, very social, everyone loves her, and has a twin who is the same, so there's two of them. One of H's friends loves to talk about her, even though she met her only once at a party. She always says, "I just can't get over how gorgeous she is! I saw her standing there next to you, so tall and pretty, and you're so tiny, and I was just blown away!" Uh, thanks, lady. You can stop saying that now, 5 years later.

No offence mehg but you're crazy pants. Stephen king movie adaptations notoriously suck. Notoriously! Also, while the shining is a great movie, its NOTHING like the book. The only movies that have been good are the serious ones. Even carrie strays way too much from the story.
• Oh, and in case anyone's wondering why I didn't mention It in my post above, that's because I refuse to watch the movie version. The book freaked me out too much, and to actually put a face to Pennywise (as much as I looooove Tim Curry) would just worsen my fear of clowns.

Haha none taken. Like I said, it's just my weirdo opinion. I like cheesy B horror movies (The Dentist, for one), so there's that. I'm no expert, I'm just a fan. I'm rereading Carrie right now since I read it when I was, like, 10 years old and couldn't remember a whole lot, but I personally thought the film did well.

And yes, I realize The Shining strayed way far away from the book, but can you imagine how boring it would have been to watch Jack sort through boxes and boxes of newspapers, rather than actually experiencing the twisted shiiit that Stanley Kubrick threw in there?

Yes, its called the shining miniseries which aired on tv and was pretty damn amazing if you ask me. The problem with stephen king horror movies is that you lose so many of the small nuances of what makes it scary by time and technology limitations. Its either going to be cut, changed, or look hokey. Even with all the time they had for bag of bones, they still changed too much. This is largely why people are so wary of the dark tower adaptation. While itd be amazing to see, it would most likely be a MAJOR let down.
• I just saw online yesterday that Carrie is being remade. I didn't recognize the girl, but I'm sure it will suck. They just can't re-create that feeling the older movies inspire. They are creepier, eerie, and downright scary without the "flashiness" of today's horror flicks. I can't explain it well. There's just a different feel to the movies.

I think it's going to be a long day. Our queue is already super low, which means a boring day indeed.
• Morning!

Sesh, good news!

Lbarr, no judgement here.

Mehg, I'm with you. I like film adaptations that stand on their own as an independent work, though, so that influences my judgement. There's no way to adapt an SK novel and leave it totally intact. I also love the rereleased novels with introductions from SK that tell where he was when he wrote each book--On Writing is my favorite of his books. I get excited over that stuff, lol. I'm reading It now and H DVRd the movie, but won't let me watch it until I finish.

• We watched a TV remake of Carrie a few weeks ago, and it was awful. Worse than the first one. I love the first one but can appreciate that it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea.

I have Bag of Bones still on my DVR but I haven't watched it yet.

• Sesh I agree with the older movies being more scary. There's just something about them.

I'm bored and I've been here for an hour. Thank goodness I am taking tomorrow off for my hair/makeup trials.

I agree, there's a certain raw grittiness that can't be replicated today. I remember when they remade Halloween, and while I love Rob Zombie, it just was so not the same. I don't know if I'll watch the new Carrie.

And Nebb, when they made The Stand into a miniseries (instead of making it a super-long movie), there were certain aspects that I thought were spot-on (Trash Can Man, Mother Abigail), but I really did not like the way they did the ending. And even in making it into a miniseries, they still lost a lot of what was in the book. I think there's always going to be something lost in translation from book to movie/miniseries, so it's going to be really hard to satisfy everyone.

I've read so many of his books so many times over that I can never warm to the movie which ends up so different. His stories and his characters are very close to my heart and it just turns me off to see it changed or to see details I felt were important lost or to just be disappointed.
• Vom. No one should ever touch Halloween, ever. I hate every new version of every movie. Even my film students start to despise remakes, it's funny.

• lbarr- I don't think you're being immature, I think your family is being insensitive.

Made it through day 1 of "Hell week". It's only going to get worse from here. I spent all day yesterday taking packets, separating them out, then putting them into folders. ALL DAY. My brain feels like it's atrophying.

Happy day all!
• Morning! I watched Sunday nights Newsroom and True Blood last night, and then I had a great Eric Northman dream. YES! haha it actually did put me in a good mood for today :) I am really liking him more than ever this season.

I was initially excited to see that Dark Tower might be adapted into a series/movies, but I doubt it would be enough like the books as usual. It is interesting to see who would get casted as Roland because I picture him a certain way in my head and so far I don't agree with the casting choices.

Interesting...she has kind of a baby face though. I bet with the right makeup, hair and clothes they could do it well.
• One of my favorite book series is being turned into a movie (The Mortal Instruments), and I HATE who they chose as Jace, the main character. In the books he is this charming, brave, super hot, suave guy. The guy they chose looks like a weakling, not attractive, is awkward in everything I've ever seen him in. I probably won't see the movie simply because of him. I can't believe he was picked over Alex Pettyfer (sp?).

I also am not sure I like who they chose for Magnus, but that I'd have to see once he's in character. Actually, I think most of the casting is all wrong, except for Simon. I'm really disappointed.

• Good morning.

{{hugs}} lbarr. Remember, no matter how perfect she is, there is a guy out there who is tired of putting up with her schiit. I'm sorry they're making you feel like crap - you are just as amazing and perfect as she is.

FuckingInsomnia. I was awake from 11:30 to 3. I heard everything that went on during the night - the cat, the milkman, the loud bass in the car passing by, the sirens, the sprinklers. At least I had a dream when I finally fell asleep that I was having breakfast with Paul Newman at a family reunion. He was very cool to hang out with, and asked me what the password was to the wi-fi at the campground. Then we shared english muffins with scrambled eggs and sausage.

• For the Janet Evanovich book "One for the Money" I am really upset by who they chose for Morelli her hot, Italian cop, on again, off again boyfriend. Jason O'Mara? No thanks. Not for that role at least. However, Daniel Sunjata is a pretty close representation of her "other" man Ranger. I'm all smiles on that one.
