Getting in Shape

Workout Accountability: Tuesday

Seems wrong to start the thread when I missed my workout yesterday! It was impossible to fit in because as soon as I got home and tidied up a bit I had to get ready for our date night.

I ordered a pizza for DD and the sitter (one of my students), picked it up, and FI and I headed out for dinner and a concert. It's such a rare thing to have a show come this far north, and it was a fabulous time!

However, since my *ahem* gluten issues, you will be happy to note that I sent the rest of the pizza to work with FI and DD. None for me, unless you count the giant sniff I took when I laid it on the counter last night!

But, since we have a winter torm watch on for tonight, there's no reason why I can't do my workout at a reasonable hour and still get to bed early!

  • Morning!

Jenny I like your logic on the workout front. also I dont know if you have any bulk barn stores in your area but there you can get loads of GF flours at a reasonable price so you can make your own pizza crust so you don't feel excluded from the pizza fun. FI and I make it all the time!
like you I also did not get a workout in. Everytime I think I am about to go to a spin class or for a run some stupid wedding crisis pops up.

I would like it to be honeymoon time now haha

food is on target today and tonight we are making spaghetti squash which is super tasty and low calories.

has anyone ever tried to freeze cooked spaghetti squash? just wondering if it will hold up in the freezer or if it will go super ick.

I was wondering the same thing, souptin. This is what I found.

No, there are no Bulk Barns up here. There's one grocery store that sells boxed gluten free pizza dough mix, brownie mix and I think they sell small bags of buckwheat flour. This is all new to me, so it's a learning process. I don't usually make my own pizza, but I guess it's time to start!

You must be getting super excited!

I have no idea where we're going to honeymoon, or if we're going right away after the wedding or waiting until next Christmas. Either way, I need to travel somewhere again. I miss my trips!

  • Morning!

Last night I was able to get in 20 minutes on the elliptical and I was still able to do an arms and abs workout.  Tonight I'm hoping to get a run in after I vote.

According to MFP, my food hasn't been too bad.  I'm just frustrated with the recent weight gain and I know it's going to take time to come off but I'm a very impatient person.
  • Good morning ladies!

Well yesterday continued to be disappointing. Turns out my husband completely forgot about my birthday. He still hasn't acknowledged it at all. I don't know if I should hold it against him or just let it go. Part of me wants to hold a grudge but I know it's childish.

I did get to the gym yesterday and I did body combat followed by 35 minutes on the treadmill to help with my hurt/anger. I'm happy to say this means I've grown...if something like this had happened last year I'm positive I would have just sat in front of the TV with ice cream to pout all night...I'm happy I'm doing something constructive instead of destructive now.

I hope everyone has a great voting day (for those of us who live in the states that is)!

  • Aw, sorry Entropic! Tell your husband - don't be angry or confrontational, just let him know that you're disappointed. I'm betting that he just took it literally that you didn't want him to make a big deal. Men are very literal creatures. I learned a long time ago that if there was something I wanted, say for Christmas or a birthday, to speak up or not be surprised when it didn't happen.

Now I send my sweetie a list of suggestions, along with links. I give him lots of choice, so he's still making the decision. He's actually happier about doing it this way because he knows that I'm going to like what he gets. He's gone from telling me that he has a gift-buying phobia to just being a procrastinator.

And who knows? Maybe he's just waiting for the weekend. Mondays are hard nights to celebrate on - I'm soooo sleepy today. Good thing we don't go out very often!

  • Good morning!

@souptin - I can't believe how close you are to the wedding, good luck with everything.  It must be really really exciting!

@lbarr - I can relate to the impatience.  whenever I need to lose weight the logical side knows that gradual is the way to go, but my impulsive side just gets impatient and mad!

@entropic - good for you for being constructive, it would've been a SUPER easy excuse to do some serious emotional eating (for me at least!).  but if it's bothering you (and it would bother me), you wouldn't be out of line to say something about it (if you haven't already, obviously i don't know all your business!).

On my side of things the last 2 days have been great.  Yesterday I went to the gym after work and did 40 minutes on the bike (I'm trying to add in more cross-training since running has become my cardio of choice) and then pilates when I got home.  Food was right on track, I made stuffed mushrooms, broccoli, and a tiny bit of mashed potatoes for dinner, which was really good.  Plus I even had extra calories at the end of the day so I got to treat myself to a ladyfinger (toast with frosting.  totally non-nutritious, but delicious!).

Today I packed a really heathy and fruit heavy lunch and am doing a Pilates class with my sister after work.  I'm going to that same Melt restaurant I mentioned previously to watch election coverage, because the BBC is broadcasting from there (since I'm in Ohio we get a crap ton of election stuff) and that sounds like fun.  But I'm going to try to eat dinner at home before I go and maybe just split something small or grab a drink (to avoid bingeing on melt-y gooey cheesy goodness).  But on the positive side of things, I started to see some movement with the scale, as I've started to shed the couple of pounds I picked up during all of the chaos that has been my last 2 weeks or so!  Yay!

Well that was long, I apologize!  Hope everyone has a good Tuesday!

  • @entropic - I agree with PP. It sucks that he forgot your birthday. Just talk to him. Staying angry for me is like me eating the poison and expecting it to hurt them. Without letting someone know I have been hurt it ends up just ruining my day and not their's.

So, I went AWOL. I didn't want to think about not wanting to exercise and eating like crazy. Didn't even track for 3 days. Am sure I went over the amount of calories I was supposed to eat and I didn't exercise. I know the trigger was lots of stress at work last week and then getting out of the habit of going to the gym (I tried last week, but then traffic jams and late nights at work helping client in crisis got me off last week).

So, back on track yesterday though. I forced myself to go to the gym. I tried to argue myself out of it the entire way there, but the angel on my other shoulder said if all I did was get there and walk in the door and out that was fine (this usually works for me as I end up working out and I don't have the pressure of having to make up for all the days I missed). Food was good yesterday too. So, hoping to continue the roll today and the rest of this week.

[QUOTE]Good morning everyone! @jennylee - grocery stores here are always way overstocked with GF foods.  Yay for CO?  If you ever need something sent to you for experimentation, just let me know! @souptin - I hope everything goes smoothly with your continual wedding prep.  You're so close!  And the honeymoon will be amazing. @entropic - sorry to hear about the forgotten birthday.  I ditto Jenny - tell your husband and let him know it's important to at least get acknowledgement.  I imagine he'll feel terrible for forgetting. Today is a rest day, which means I'll be using my lunch hour to call a few more companies about name changes / bank account change.  It's like changing your name takes work or something.  Sigh.

Thanks, that's awesome of you. I'm going to scope out the other stores here (there are two that I almost never go to), and see what they have . But I will keep it in mind!

I wish I'd have known this about myself two years ago. Before I moved up here there was a GF bakery around the corner from my house!

  • You guys are right...I so badly want to make him suffer for a couple of days until he can GUESS why I'm upset but I know he just won't get it anyways unless I tell him. Might have to wait till tomorrow though because I'm using my lunch to vote and he works the night shift tonight. I'm glad I've had some time to think about it and get over it though...there's definitely no need to cause a scene or blow this up.

@Jenny - just because there was a gluten free bakery doesn't mean it's good for you ;-)

@Clio - that's the right attitude! GETTING to the gym is usually more than half the battle.

Very true, Entropic! But after last week, I also know that gluten isn't good for me AT ALL... And honestly, breads aren't even high on my radar. I seldom eat them, but having options is always a good thing.

    Now cake on the other hand ... who doesn't like cake??? <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" />

</div><div>Funnily enough I actually hate cake! It's the frosting that does it though (that's probably why I like muffins but not Cake).</div><div>
</div><div>Update on the DH situation - I WAS going to vote at lunch but DH called and said he was cooking lunch for me and asked me to come home and vote after work. I told him that I was hurt he hadn't acknowledged my birthday and he apologized and said he felt really bad. I guess on the upside I have a husband who randomly cooks me steak lunches, so I guess I should forgive if he sometimes is careless with remembering stuff like birthdays.

@ entropic I am with you on the frosting! That's my favorite part. The steak sounds awesome. Hope you feel a little better being able to talk to him. Doesn't make it okay to forget the birthday, but now you can work towards a solution for next year and not carry it around for the year.

  • Hooray for steak lunches!

I don't enjoy muffins as a rule. I very rarely go out of my way for one, although I did make some tasty apple ones a few weeks ago ...

[QUOTE]Ah, muffins.  They opened a new muffin place around the corner a while back, and I used to eat 3-4 a week.  Then I actually looked up the calories on them and they had between 500 and 600.  I just...couldn't do it.  It's turned me off to muffins since, except for the ones I make at home and can control in terms of size and ingredients. But yay for a steak lunch!  Glad you talked things out, Entropic.

<div>I am not even kidding when I say that I gained 20 lbs from eating muffins in New Zealand. At the time I was VERY uneducated about nutritional value of items and ASSUMED that because a muffin wasn't a donut it was a healthier alternative. I ate a muffin every day, sometimes two! I cringe thinking about it.</div><div>
</div><div>I now know that muffins are a SOMETIMES food lol - I'll only eat them on days I know I can make it to the gym and can balance the rest of my calories to fit it in.</div>

  • lol - I've never once said that I'm craving a muffin... Again, it's the bread thing.

But if I were to make/eat muffins, these are awesome.

Now nachos - I crave them in my sleep!
