I also second the facebook "Like this if you want to cure cancer, and if you don't like it you must want all cancer patients to DIE!"  I mean, really?  Liking a facebook status is not going to help or not help anyone's cancer treatment.

I had a couple of cousins that had pretty severe ADD-like qualities (not sure if officially diagnosed). They were restricted from consuming anything with artifical colors/flavors and they were fine.

My 17 year old daughter has ADHD...I control what she eats at home, but at school it's pizza every damn day...even with me making her lunch. I found this out at the end of this school year when i got a bill for her lunch tab.

It's a good thing she's at her dad's for the summer. This will give me time to cool down. Had she been here, well lets just say the Kraken would have cowered.

</div><div>2) Consider your childhood. Your parents, while they took photos of you, did not have the option of splashing your photos across the internet for all time. Why do we do it to our children, when there are better options for photo sharing with specific people, and not the whole interwebs?</div><div>
</div><div>3) A lot of photos now are geo-tagged, or the location where they were taken can be apparent from the photo. A public Facebook page does not require a user to "Like" the page and be identified. People can browse anonymously and download any photo they want, Google your name, check the geo-tag, find out where your child goes to school, where you take them to the park, where you live, etc. Online pageants? You think creepy men don't stalk those things? Okay...

Schools nowadays send out a form to parents asking if it is OK to photograph and publish said photos of your child/children, so they are covered.

As for parents/visitors taking photos at a school event, I doubt it would go over well to tell them they cannot film/photograph their kid in the school play/concert/graduation ceremony, but I understand where you are coming from.

  • I still think its' an overreaction. If a kid needs to be protected - it gets around that pictures of that kid need to be kept underwraps. My nephew has a kid who's got some sort of situation where his location as well as his mother needs to be kept guarded. Teachers let the adults know that pictures of the student were not allowed and what not. I just don't see a huge deal with it.
Not to mention, I think most people have the common sense to not have completely open facebook pages. I'm sorry, but I have a right to share pictures of my children in whatever format I want.  Other people's children? I'll be respectful. But my kids, my pictures? My decision.
    Posted by djhar
Exactly, and I mean, when kids are in groups and see a camera, many times they want to jump in and have a picture with their friends. I can't imagine being a nazi about it and saying "NO! YOU CAN'T BE IN THIS PICTURE BECAUSE FACEBOOK IS PUBLIC!"

My college has a rule, smoking 5 ft from the door or something. No one does it. When it rains it's even worse.  What was bad were the douchbags who smoked outside out oncampus apartment, right outside our windows.  Not in front of their window of course, because they didn't want it in their apartment! We asked them nicely to just move away from our window but they laughed and ignored us every time. It was annoying. I'd never had that problem with smokers before, really. But yeah, it made me bitter.

ETA: Our apartment housed the entire XC team, and I had asthma. So yeah, I thought it was rude as fuuuck.

I think the kid photos is a touchy subject.  Obviously if your kid's friends run into the pic to pose you can't stop them, but then don't post that pic without the parents' ok.  Just post the pics of just your kid.  Its not rocket science.

Then again, common sense is lacking these days.
  • So...because I would post a picture of my (non-existent) kid with 3 of her friends on my private facebook account, I'm lacking common sense?
