Grrom Question: Need recommendations on finding someone to make a custom dress

In going back a couple pages through this forum, I feel like I might be out of my element here a bit but I hope you'll bear with me as I'm trying to find my fiancee the dress of her dreams that slipped through our fingers.

The story is pretty simple but essentially she found the "dress of her dreams" while it was on another bride-to-be at David's Bridal and so she adored it from afar while she waited for the bride to finish trying it on. Except that other bride bought it right then and there. "That's okay", I thought, "Surely they'll have another one in stock and in her size." But when I came out of hiding (I'd established a little couch near the shoe section as "home base" so I could hide from all the strange looks I was getting as a groom in a bridal store) and asked the representative helping us, she made a bit of a gasp as she proceeded to tell us that not only had that dress been discounted from 1500$ to 400$, it was also a discontinued dress. As such we spent the next hour frantically calling no less than 10 stores in the area and they were even kind enough to call the warehouse for us to check but to no avail. To make matter worse, the dress doesn't even come in my beautiful fiancee's size.

So now I'm looking to see about getting it custom made. I don't mind putting in extra hours at work or doing whatever it takes to get the dress but I really don't have any idea where to begin with this. Typically this would be a project she'd tackle but I think she's given up hope on finding the perfect dress after seeing that one and she's in a bit of a funk about this so I want to help out. The dress can be found here:

Any ideas on how much this might cost to get custom made, who might be the best person to contact about getting this done, or anything else that might get me a little closer to getting this for my future wife would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for bearing with me!

I think what you are doing is lovely but let me give you a few things to consider.

Many brides get stuck on one specific dress--not unusual.  But the thing is, the dress can look totally different--and the bride's feelings about it can totally change--once the dress is actually tried on.  So the fact that she hasn't even tried the dress on is a bit troublesome.  A wedding dress is not your typical evening gown--it has to be perfect.

My recommendation would be to take a picture of that dress shopping and explain to the consultant that it is what she is looking for and have the consultant give her dresses with that same silhouette and beading, straps, etc. to try to see if that is indeed the look she is going for.  She may find another dress she loves or she may find that that isn't the look she wants at all.

We do have a local seamstress that we all swear by for alterations and she has in the past done custom wedding dresses, although I don't know if she still does or not.  Her name is Becky Fowler and she is a lovely lady in Irving.  Her # is 972 986-8067.
