MOH wants to wait to order dress (kinda long, but cliffs notes at bottom :-P)

As she is, of course, losing weight. Good for her, I'm glad she's getting in shape, no problem. The wedding is May 21, and she hasn't ordered the dress we picked out from David's Bridal. Actually, she hasn't even tried it on. Together, we decided that she could wear 1 of 3 styles in pool (the ones that you can mix and match with the sash and peekaboo skirt) with an ivory sash. When I asked her if she had ordered it yet, she said that they always come in early and that she will order it by March 21 (two months before the wedding) to give her enough time to get down to the size she wants. When we went shopping in December she refused to try anything on because she didn't like her weight, but she picked out those styles and I agreed. I was a little upset then just because I was really looking forward to that experience, and knowing what she was going to wear, but ok, fine, I have a general idea. Now I'm a little more anxious that she still wants to wait. Shes the only bm so it's not like she's not going to match, but I'd hate for her to not have the dress by the time of the wedding and have to deal with that stress days before I get married!

Cliffs notes: MOH hasn't ordered/tried on dress from David's Bridal for May 21 wedding because she wants to lose weight and insists they always come in early.

How long should I wait before insisting she order it? TIA (and I'm also posting this on the wedding party board :-P... the more help the better!)

  • I would tell to order the dress now.  My sister's dress came in from David's Bridal with a messed up zipper, so the whole dress had to be sent back.  It ended up taking about 2 months to get her dress and it STILL stressed me out several months in advance.  I'd hate for you to end up in that position with no time to fix the problem.

She could always order the dress and if she loses enough weight, have it taken in.

  • You should call DB today and ask how long the specific style will take to come in. When I was a BM, my dress from DB took 4 months to come in!  If that's still the case, she won't have time to get it altered.  And DO NOT let her order the dress now in a smaller size than what she is.  It's better to get it altered down then have to deal with a dress that's a size too small.

  • If she waits much longer to order the dress, fudge the wedding date. This is what we did at DB last year when ordering the FG dress for my daughter's wedding. The salesgirl created a "new event" and made the date 3 weeks earlier than the actual wedding date. The dress came within a couple of weeks of ordering. This can be risky, as a previous poster mentioned, what if the dress comes and it has a serious flaw?
