Wedding Invitations & Paper

How much invitation notice for destination wedding?

Hi, we are holding our wedding in Lake Tahoe August, 2013. How far in advance should we send out the invites and ask for responses? Since people need to find accommodations and vacation time, I feel we can ask for RSVP by mid-June, send out invites in mid-April?

Anyone have any advice?

Thanks!

Re: How much invitation notice for destination wedding?

  • Invitations should go out 6-8 weeks ahead of the wedding.  10 weeks is about the maximum.  If you aren't sending formal STDs, make a website with travel info and email out a link a few months in advance.

Your RSVP date should be about a week before your headcount is due, but a month ahead of the wedding is the absolute soonest you should ask for a reply.  Asking people to commit 2 months in advance is pushy to the point of rude.
  • I'm having a destination wedding in Puerto Rico for Aug. 2013.  My venue is asking for a head count for June 1st so we were planning on sending them out in April and expecting RSVP's in May.  My family will DOES NOT meet deadlines so I have to give them as much time as possible to respond and give myself as much time as possible to track them down if need be. LOL.
  • I'm sending out my Save the Dates in the next 2 months or so for a March 2014 cruise wedding. I think it depends on how much the wedding will cost for the guests to attend. I got a Save the Date 1 year before a wedding in Cabo San Lucas. I found it helpful to know that far in advance. My fiance and I had tons of time to figure out the logistics and to save up for the trip.
  • We are planning on sending ours out for a May 2014 Mexico destination wedding a year in advance. But, we made a wedding website already that's been passed around by word of mouth.
