Weight Watchers....Online vs In person?

I know it obviously depends on the person, but can anyone tell me how these two ways of Weight Watchers worked for the, cost differences, is there a contract, etc.?

Thanks!

Re: Weight Watchers....Online vs In person?

  • When I joined I used a hybrid of both online and in person meetings which really worked well. If you know you're disciplined then the online only can really work well. I liked the weigh in at the meetings because it held me accountable to really reach my goals. Sometimes they have great deals where they're waive the start-up fee or add a couple weeks free if you sign up for a certain amount of months. I loved weight watchers and am definitely thinking about going back on it again.

There isn't a contract for the meetings.  There is a sign up fee and a cost for each meeting.  The cost varies per location and at most locations when you buy the monthly pass you can etools (point calculator and recipe builder) for free.  There isn't really a contract for the meetings.

  • I really love both.  The in-person meetings are really helpful for accountability.  I've also gotten a ton of great recipes and food suggestions from the other members (Skinny Cow Ice Cream, how did I not know about you?!)

I also need the e-tools.  I'm busy and forgetful, so being able to track right on my phone saves me most weeks!
  • I am also a lifetime Weight watchers Member.
Back in 2002 I did Weight Watchers and lost 70 pounds over the course of a year. I went from a size 16 to a size 3! During that time, I went to a meeting every single week. I didn't always stay, sometimes just got weighed in. But I found that actually going there to get weighed in was what made all the difference for me. I also found it VERY helpful to do it with someone else. In the beginning, my friend was doing WW with me, and going to the meetings with me, later on, it was my mom.  I am not sure what the registration fee is, but once you are registered and continue going every week, you don't have to pay that fee again unless it is more than 4 weeks. There is a weekly charge - currently it is $13 in my area - to attend the meeting and get weighed in. If you buy a monthly pass, it is much less than that.
Unfortunately, over the course of the last 8 years, i gained all of the weight back. I tried numerous times to get back on track. I found that it really had a lot to do with support - I needed someone doing it with me, to keep me on track.
Once a lifetime member, if you don't maintain your goal weight, you have to pay the weekly fee but never have to pay for registration again.
I tried doing WW online and didn't like it - just because I needed to physically go to the meetings and get weighed in for it to work - for me. Everybody is different. I didn't feel the support that I needed. However, Etools is pretty cool, and maybe you would be into that! You do get Etools free with a monthly pass, so you could always try it.
I recently just started going back to WW again (this Saturday actually) because I'd like to lose at least 40 pounds before my wedding next September.
good luck in whatever you decide! Feel free to PM me if you have any questions!!

  • I am a monthly pass user and like pp I need the accountability of weighing in and going to meetings. I use the etools though to look up foods and get tips and recipes. It's great because I didn't have to buy the complete food or dining out guides this time around.
