September 2012 Weddings

Let the house hunting begin =)

So we got the go ahead to start looking at houses. I am so excited, but nervous because we have to do it before the wedding. It's going to be a crazy couple of months. I hope I can do all this.

I know, I can't wait to have a yard to work in and for LO to play. I'm so sick of having neighbors SO close, and usually they're kind of odd. One of the things I want to buy first is a patio set so we can have dinner outside.

We want 3-4 bedrooms (I want 3 kids), a decent size yard, 2 car garage, decent size kitchen (everyone seems to congregate to the kitchen during get togethers), good school district, and a nice basement. The basement doesn't have to be redone because we can do that ourselves, but I want the option. We have a plumber, electrician, and mason in the immediate family so the house can be some what of a fixer-upper. I'm just so excited to finally get a house. I can't wait to do yard work. I know that sounds crazy, but I love to be outside, so does LO. We're going to see a Realtor tomorrow.
We plan to never move again, I want my kids to grow up in the same house and go to the same school their whole life. I'm so excited!!!

  • Congrats! My dad is a realtor and he always has one big piece of advice... Don't rush!

A lot of people he deals with want to get it over with and end up settling on a house that they aren't in love with. Take your time, if you want to stay there forever then make sure it's perfect for you.

Also (I'm sure you know this) don't fret over the little stuff. Paint, windows, etc can be changed. What can't? Location, yard, floorplan (to an extent)... and it's great that you have those family connections to change and make everything your own, that will be a Godsend!

GOOD LUCK! I'm jealous. We are in a house but are renting it. Our friend owns it (it was his parent's and they gave it to him) so he doesn't care if we change and improve things. BUT since it isn't ours it wouldn't be a good investment to update if we can't get money back out of it...

Thanks for the advice. We just found out that we don't have to get it before the wedding, so we don't have to rush now. It makes it a lot less stressful. We are being choosy and looking at everything. I printed off some checklists so we can rate everything in each house.
