Bridesmaid Dresses

Question....

Our budget is not HUGE so we can't buy my bridesmaid's dresses.

Do the brides normally buy the bridesmaid dresses or do the bridesmaids buy them themselves???

    Usually the bridesmaids will purchase their dresses. Just have a conversation with each of them individually to find out what they will be able to afford and start looking in that price range.

    In the United States, it's customary for bridesmaids to buy their own dresses. But you are responsible for talking to them (individually and privately) before you go shopping so that they can tell you how much they want to spend.

    You would be required to buy the dresses if you were demanding a certain dress that they could not afford or didn't want. You also cannot demand that they get professional hair, makeup or nails if you are not paying for it. (You can certainly say, "I'm using XX Salon and they charge $x for their services, so if you want to use them as well let me know and I'll book you an appointment," and since you are not requiring it then you are not required to pay.)

    But some countries, and some families/cultures, believe that the couple ought to pay for their attendants' attire. If this is the case with your bridesmaids, talk to them and explain the situation, and then find a way for them all to wear something that they can afford. One option is to give them a color swatch and any specifications (maybe the length of the dress, and/or if you want to prohibit things like embroidery or sparkles) and let them find a suitable dress anywhere they want. That way, they can set their own budgets and pick out something to their liking.

    I agree, its the bridesmaids responsibility to buy the dress but keep their budgets in mind as well as their general happiness. Please dont put them in neon green long satin dresses in the heat of the summer
