Sandals Switch

I'm not feeling comfortable in keeping my resevation with Sandals Regency in St. Lucia because of the devastation to various parts of the island. My FI and I were planning tours and right now it looks like leaving the resort is not likely. Sandals will allow me to switch to another property, but I am having a hard time picking one? Any suggestions?

I appreciate any feedback from previous honeymooners. I'm a little lost right now... TIA

Re: Sandals Switch

  • We will be a the Grande in a couple weeks and are sticking to our reservation but I understand your decision to switch.

I have heard VERY good things about Antigua.

  • We loved Antigua.

  • I just switched to Antigua! Very happy with my decision and the new room category:-) Phew...feel much better.

Now I need to get the scoop on this island....
  • Antigua is nice. If you're there over a Sunday, take the excursion out to Shirley Heights. They have good BBQ (though a bit pricey), a steel drum band and amazing views of the harbour and sunset from up top.

  • We went on the rainforest ziplining tour and loved it - very cool experience. On a kind of cloudy morning, we took the shopping trip into St. Johns - it was ok, neat to walk around the stores and see the cruise ships, but I wouldn't do it on a nice day when you could be enjoying other activities.

Our favorite activity though was the Xtreme Circumnavigation tour.

They picked us up at Sandals, brought us to a park where we swam with stingrays, took us to a private beach for lunch, we went snorkeling, and they took us to another empty beach for rum punch. The ride around the island was awesome as well.

The Xtreme Circumnav tour is great - just a note - you can get it for a better price if you book directly with the owners of the tour than through Sandals:

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Sandals Switch : Yeah I should have mentioned that we did that (but couldn't come up with Adventure Antigua's name for the life of me). We also booked the ziplining directly through their company as well.

Oh good, I'm glad! That's the only problem with Sandals... they like to charge extra to get their cut off a tour that's not theirs!

  • We absolutely hated the resort .. had a TON of issues with the staff. We'd go back to Antigua in a heartbeat but never to a Sandals again. There were two other couples on the plane home who had similar experiences to ours.

That said ... we did the "shop in town" trip. Basically you pay the resort to arrange for a cab into the shopping area. Another couple came on the ride in/out with us. The husband asked about private tours w/ him vs. going through the hotel. The driver gave us his number and we ended up calling him - truly one of the BEST decisions we made during the entire week. We saw so much more of the island than we would have with the hotel tour. Plus I'd rather see the money going into someone hands who deserve it, vs the hotel taking their cut for doing nothing but coordinating it.
  • Will Sandals let you switch to Royal Plantation? If so, jump on it. The resort is amazing. Emerald Bay in the Exumas is brand new and I have heard great things about it.

My personal favorite is Sandals Negril. There is just something to be said for the people and Jamaican hospitality that can't be matched anywhere else in the Caribbean.

  • Thanks for all the tips, ladies! I am going to check into booking outside of Sandals! Hopefully I made the right decision!!!
