Guest Book Alternative

I was thinking about doing some instead of the traditional guest book for the reception.  Does any have any suggestions/ideas?

Thanks!

Re: Guest Book Alternative

  • Photo book, wish bowl, signature mat, engravable bowls...there are so many options
  • I made a photobook on Picaboo filled with pictures of us from the years we've been together.  I put one or two pictures per page with plenty of space all around for people to write or leave messages.  I got an archival pen from the scrapbooking section at Michael's.  People signed, left notes and messages, it was great.  It's on our coffee table now.

Some people do the same but use their engagement pictures.

  • We received a signature platter as a gift, so we'll be using that.

If we didn't get that, we would've used a coffee table book of a subject we like and ask people to sign that. (We were going to get one of those hardcover books with lots of full-page photos, about New Jersey.)

  • We got a couple of large posters for people to sign.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I'm doing a vintage theme for the reception, and having a typewriter signing.
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • We're doing a ceramic plat with our names painted on.  Go to a DIY pottery place and they will write it all for you.  Once you have everyone sign you'll have to take it back to get it fired.  It's great because you can use it all the time.
  • I just found an idea today that I LOVE.

Guests put their thumb prints on the tree and then sign their names around their "leaves." I am totally stealing this idea!

We bought this "Wishing Wall" that is like a framed honeycomb that people can write doodles, wishes, or signatures on colored paper and place in the comb and we can later display as art on our wall.  We decorated it with our wedding colors, and I love it.

  • blso9, We are doing the same thing! I LOVED the idea! I found it here on theknot & a friend of ours is a tattoo artist, hes going to draw us a tree, but its going to be a lot different looking...then we'll frame it and use it for art on our wall....No guestbook collecting dust for us!

  • We are going to use river rocks. Everyone will sign a river rock and place it in a dish that we will use on a coffe table or somewhere in our house to decorate with. We are also going to take a picture of all of our guests and later make a photo/guest book.
  • my fiance and I were thinking about having people sign quilting squares and then I'll sew them into a quilt and have a nice keepsake from the wedding.
  • FI and I will be making a large chalkboard (out of plywood probably) using chalkboard paint.  We'll get tons of different colors of chalk and everyone will sign that.  When it's done, we'll seal it, add on some moulding/trim to act as a frame and hang it in our house.  I'm super excited about the idea, but I'm a kid at heart and love chalk.
  • chalkboard sounds cute.  FMIL does quilting, so I like the quilt square idea but then I am afraid it will look too much like the high school t-shirt signing thing.  I also like the idea of wine bottle signing as I collect wines.
dont make ur password so easy. gbck2CA2 hahahaha
  • My FI and I are planning to buy a catamaran in the future and do a circumnavigation.  I saw the river rock idea, but thought it would be mighty heavy for the boat, so we are using sea shells.  This might work for a beach wedding too.
  • I just came across an amazing idea and ordered it on the spot!  Go to etsy.com and enter "signature mat" This artist does wood burning of any quote you like and then draws a tree with hearts as leaves (its kind of hard to see on this picture... go to the website!!) She personalizes it with your names and the date... she'll put whatever you want on it and she's suuuuuper nice. At the reception, people can sign and after, we have this amazing plaque to hang! We ordered the matching card box as well!

  • A neat idea I heard of was have someone take Polaroid pictures of all your guests as they come in (singles or groups) and then have them sign at the bottom of the photo or write a personal message. After the wedding you can place all the photos in an album as a different kind of guestbook!
