My DJ Bailed... :-(

So, a very good friend of mine who is a pro audio engineer and DJ just bailed on DJing our wedding.  She offered to do it and give it to us as a wedding gift.  Ummmm... yea... she sent me a message on facebook to tell me!  I ever triple checked with her before signing the equipment rental contract and putting down the deposit (more like I checked 5 or 6 times and asked her if she'd definitely be able to do it no matter where she is living at the time... she's a bit nomadic, and of course she assured me she would be there and that she was excited about it).

Anyway, we already reserved and put down a deposit on the equipment months ago for her, since she was coming from CA.  We were renting the equipment from Dance to the Music.... sooooo, luckily they still have DJs available and are willing to transfer our deposit and write a new contract for a DJ.  We're interviewing them tonight.  FI's family has used them many times for their big summer blowout party, so we have some experience with them.

I just wanted to touch base with you ladies and see if there are any specific questions I should ask.  We're kind of tied to using them unless we want to lose our deposit that we already put down.  I know they're good and reputable, so unless we REALLY get a bad vibe for some reason, we'll be using them.  I just want to make sure we get everything out on the table this meeting.  Thoughts?

You should be fine with them. They are more then qualified & have really great service.

Do you know who you are using?

I highly suggest Jim (the owner) & Spencer.

GL & let us know how it goes!

Thanks Kim... no idea who the DJ is that's available.  I got the facebook message while I was out of town performing, so I frantically asked FI to take care of getting in touch with them.  He didn't think to ask (especially since we're kind of between a rock and a hard place).  I'll definitely find out tonight.  I'm so picky about DJs (being that I worked in the music industry for so long... lol... sorry, yes a bit of a music snob).  So, I'm a bit nervous.  That's what was so great about having my friend do it.  She was my engineer for years and knows our music tastes. boo... On the bright side, now I don't have to worry about the fact that my friend is 'working' my wedding.  I can relax and not worry about whether they DJ is having a good time or not. lol.

My holidays were good!  I'm happy to be home though.

I still have to do my invitations.  Have to order vases and rocks for centerpieces, table runners, candles, favor boxes, chinese dress.  Still need to buy gifts for parents, flower girl and friend that is officiating.... order the liquor and rentals. Ugg.. I'm sure I'm missing something.  Have to look through my lists.  All of the big stuff is booked.  I'm just down to the details.

Sorry to hear what happened. Glad that you can transfer the deposit to one of their djs. If you are not into the standard wedding musics make sure you let the dj know and give the dj a cd with your songs if it's not something that is common.

We used Jim (the owner) at Dance to the Music and he was awesome!!  I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted played at our wedding and the whole rundown and he was more than accommodating.

So we met with Jimmy and it went really well.  I feel completely comfortable with him.  He's done weddings at our venue and with our photographer and videographer, so he's totally on board.  He'll be our DJ and is comfortable with taking charge. What a relief!  He also gave us a great deal, since our family has used him many times... bonus!
