Hey Knotties, I always loved reading these that others have written so I thought i'd share mine while they are still fairly fresh in my mind. For quite a few things I used family friends (Caterer, Cake Baker & Florist). I'm sorry i'm not much help in that area....
Rings - Rogers & Hollands @ Oakland Mall Troy, MI = B +. There was an issue at first with financing (no I wouldn't finance a ring without having the money, but it was 0%... so free money). They messed that up at first but quickly corrected it when we called. There service was overall pretty good. And Hubby and I both LOVE our rings
Dress, Shoes & Undergarments - Pierre's Bridal Lansing = B-. I love love my dress and my BM's also loved their dresses. But there were some issues and discrepencies about price sometimes Ex. they charged my BM less than what they charged my mom to alter her dress, but BM's dress needed way way more altering. They also did not do a good job fitting me for my undergarment and I had to exchange it. One of the sales people acted like I couldn't get another one and there was nothing she could do (overall very rude). I talked to the owner and things were worked out perfectly. I also had made an appointment for my first fitting and apparently they had no record of it - so I ended up waiting for an hour before my first fitting. I did however love my dress alterations. I only needed a bustle but it turned out beautifully!
BM Dresses - Pierres Bridal Lansing = A. Things were ordered and recieved in a timely fashion. Dresses were also altered nicely.
Tuxes - Baryames Tuxedo Lansing = C. This was a disaster from the beginning. Hubby had always rented tuxes from Baryames for prom, homecoming ect. so we thought it would work our well. I was really unhappy with the service from the beginning and we probably should've changed rental places right away. Oh well. Here were the issues:
1. They weren't much help with trying to coordinate the looks and I was left on my own pretty much. I thought they would at least help me with what was traditionally done and the style now. This is my first wedding....
2. They got the colors WRONG! Luckily we found this out when Hubby was going to get fitted. He pointed out the vest color to his best man and the salesman said that was not the one we chose (and it was). I had even taken the BM dresses in to match them when we first picked everything out. I went back in and had to change all the vests, ties ect.
3. The guys go to pick up their tuxes and a few did not fit correctly at all - though it was easily fixed. And the pocket squares were still the wrong color! Half of the guys had already picked up their tuxes so Best Man had to go back and get the right pocket squares for the rest of the wedding party between the rehersal and rehersal dinner.
Everything turned out just fine, but I had hoped it would have worked out much more smoothly.
First Presbyterian Church Lansing = A. They were great to work with, even let me come in way way early to have my hair and makeup done.
Woldumar Nature Center Lansing (reception hall) = B. I LOVED this location. We used the old barn onsite. It was beautiful! I gave them a B because they are somewhat difficult to work with. What I mean by this is that they don't specialize in wedding receptions so they don't always know how to deal with anxious brides who want to see the venue, talk to the person in charge ect. They also require you to have a security person onsite during the serving of alcohol which meant additional costs. They don't have air conditioning either. They have a great ventilation system but it's not the same. So our wedding reception was quite warm.
A Complete Rental Lansing = A+. Kim is amazing to work with as well as the rest of the employees there. It was easy to rent whatever I needed from them and also very easy to change my rental when I needed to (add things, change colors ect). They also worked with me on delivering my items when Woldumar became an issue. Woldumar wasn't going to let them deliver the day before but ended up changing their minds anyway. Kim was amazing and moved some things around for me so they could be delivered on Sat morn instead. It ended up being friday anways but Kim was so great because by this time I was in panic mode.
Grand Limousine Lansing = A-. They were pretty good. Prices were great as well. We only used them for traveling between the church and the reception hall so I can't complain - they were on time and things went well.
Music Unlimited (Steve) Grand Ledge = A+. Steve did an awesome job and everyone loved the music! He was not at all annoying or intrusive. He made announcements when needed and then played music. He was also one of the most affordable DJ's in my opinion. He had a great sound system and cool lights as well. I got a lot of compliments about the DJ.
Saborah Imaging Lansing (Jeff and Lisa) = A+. I got tons of compliments about my photographers. They were on time, I've loved all of the pictures and most of all they were not in the way. It was like they weren't even there. They are also lots of fun and energetic. I bought one of their packages which ended up allowing me to do engagement pics, wedding pics and a trash the dress session. I haven't done the trash the dress session yet, but I honestly can't wait to work with them again.
All Tressed Up Grand Ledge = A. Deb was great to work with as well as Angela who she had help. I know that they have gotten some negative comments on here, but I honestly loved my hair and makeup and they came to the church to do it all. I am a very fair skinned redhead and I thought my makeup was amazing. I never wear makeup and I felt like it was nicely done and not overdone. I also tend to get blotchy when i'm emotional and I swear you couldn't see it so I was happy that the makeup looked just natural. All Tressed Up also provided a lunch (part of the pkg) and it was great!
I feel like I am missing some things so please ask. Like I mentioned I had family friends do the flowers, cater, and bake the cake. My family also helped me decorate early in the morning the day of, so I didn't use a DOC or any decorators. I also made my own STD's, invitations and favors. We had a pretty tight budget.
The day went smoothly and fast!
