In Response to Re: Irrational Fears : I am so glad to live in a place with very few bugs. We do have huge cockroaches. They get big by... I dunno, eating all our garbage or something. We don't have any IN our house, but sometimes I see them on the sidewalk and sometimes they get IN our house. One day the cat ran up to play with something and... yeah it was a roach almost as big as he was. I'm not afraid of snakes. Just of things with more legs than 4. Except ants and flies. Those just annoy me.

• Ok, the achilles heel thing? I always walk in the middle of the parking lot aisle and I don't walk through dark parking lots at night. My roommate thought I was INSANE when I yelled at her about taking a short cut through a parking lot one night. But that's what my dad taught me, and he works in health and safey.

• I can relate to the car accident stuff, too.

I was in an accident not long after I got my license and another one a couple years after that.

Since then, I became a pretty conservative driver. When FI and I first started dating, I'd be completely tense by the time we got to our destination any time he drove. He's gracefully bowed to my fears of "brushes with death" as we semi-jokingly call them, and now I rarely think I'm going to die when he's driving. My dad, on the other hand, has become terrifying to drive with.

I've needed an IV for surgery since I was born, and you'd think I'd be used to them by now, but no. I cry and freak out to the nth degree. -Ladybugs. Fvck ladybugs. I was at Ontario Place (big water park in Toronto) walking up the giant waterslide stairs, and they were covered in the things. I think that's where it started. I had them all over my feet, and those things deff fvcking bite. -Anything with more than 4 legs that can hatch eggs in my ear. -Undertow. I was sucked under during our vacation in florida and it's freaked me out ever since, even though I'm a strong swimmer and have lived on the water my whole life.

Were they the browneyred ones? I remember when I was in highschool there was a MAJOR infestation of them in my city and they bit - they were a strange breed from another country that were introduced to southern ontario to combat another bug and then got out of control.

Yeah, I think it was during the infestation, because they were literally covering the entire however many hundred feet tower. The Asian something or other lady bug wasn't it?
• Ugh, MsMery... *shudder*

What makes roaches especially terrifying, IMO, is how FAST the things move. And what the heck do you try to smoosh one with when it's as big as your foot?

Super duper strength Raid? Does it even work on something that big?

It's sort of an exaggeration, but the roach was like 4 inches long.

Worst summer of my life. We had terrible windows at the time, so I'd have 5 or so crawling on my walls any given night. God, I hate HATE lady bugs.

There was one on our kitchen wall one night. I yelled at FI that it was the biggest roach I'd ever seen and he came in and said, "Jesus." Yeah, I wasn't exaggerating. Anyway, it crawled behind the lintel of the back door. He sprayed a ton of raid in there. Two nights later? I'm in the kitchen and the thing crawls out. So no, nothing kills them. I *think* FI somehow caught it and smooshed it outside, or flushed it or something.

• I hate moths for the same reason. My mom worked in Toronto when I was a kid and would stay there during the week and I would have to stay with my grandparents... who were hoarders and had a bad habit of bringing stuff inside that they shouldnt. I suffered through a moth infestation for a period of time, when there were moths EVERYWHERE as well as moth larva on the ceilings. I would have to check my bedroom ceiling every night to make sure there was nothing there that could fall on me in the night. To this day, I cant handle months.
• Oh, God, I HATE moths. They used to get in through my bedrooms windows when i was a kid and then they would swoop around the room. One time, i was sitting on my bed, across from my dresser/mirror. I looked up a a huge moth was sitting on my neck. I didn't even feel it. I shudder just thinking about it.

This isn't a total urban legend. It happened in Philly for awhile. I was friends with the brother of a girl this happened to. So scary. All of my friends and I check under the car prior to getting close to it. People are creative in some sick fucked up ways.

Um since we have a three story house we have a rope ladder for the window that reaches the ground. I also have a duffel bag that is big enough and strong enough to fit all three of my dogs. I can carry it slung across my body. It also is packed with their extra leashes and harnesses. This way, since my FI works most nights, if something happens I can get them all out myself. We also have it registered with our alarm company and the local fire department where our dogs are kept so that they rescue them first in a fire.

I have an emergency carrier ready. Demon's regular carrier is huge, but her old one is a bit small so she can't sit/stand in it. I keep it built in case of emergencies. I also keep one (broken down) in my car because you never know when you'll need one.
In Response to Re: Irrational Fears : Oh, Jesus, this is scary. I once saw this ridiculous movie with killer clowns that hatched out of these weird larva pod things. That shiit was the scariest thing ever. That and It.
Posted by npasquale16
I watched that movie It when I was 8-9. Totally traumatized. I wouldn't do anything alone for weeks....I'd make my mom stand in the bathroom while I'd take a shower even. I still cannot watch it without freakin out.

Know what movie really scared me to death. Darkness Falls. I think it was the sound the tooth fairy made the entire movie. FI and I watched that together a few years ago......for about 4 weeks I had to sleep with some lights on.

I have an extremely irrational fear of clowns. I get funny panic attack-y things when I'm around them, or see them on TV. FI and I were watching an old episode of Supernatural, and it was about a killer clown. He finished watching it, and I hid in the bedroom with my mP3 player and a teddy bear.. No joke.

I'm also terrified of elevators. I was stuck in one for 6-ish hours by myself when I was 9, so I don't take elevators. I think I've been in one 3 times in 15+ years..
• Killer Klowns from Outer Space is the movie. It was funny, except the clowns were freakish. Between them, Gacy, and Pennywise, I hate clowns.

Snakes, lizards, chameleons, skinks, geckos, frogs, ducks, chickens, turkeys. All for the same/similar reason. They make scurrying movies and are unpredictable.

I can send myself into a panic attack if I spend any decent amount of time in an elevator or start thinking about it breaking down and getting stuck with multiple people.

I'm scared to an extent of really high and long bridges and tunnels.

• Oh, I've mentioned this before, but I'm terrified of gremlins and being lost in a labryinth.
• I second the fear of phones. And my new job will be talking to customers, so it's definitely a face your fear moment.

The ocean. I don't know what huge scary sea monsters are out there, and I don't want to know. I'll stay on the shore, thank you.
• I grew up with an irrational fear of the dark. I used to keep myself up at night listening to the "footsteps" in the other room.....it was really my own pulse.

• I'm afraid of any water that I can't see through to the bottom. When I was in Puerto Rico, we went to the bioluminescent bay, which you have to swim in at night, obviously. I literally almost peed my pants when getting into the water.
• I am very scared of spiders, clowns, rollercoasters, being enclosed in small spaces and of failure (at anything).

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Pictures, Images and Photos
• I am terrified of being caught under water, particularly under ice. Who knows why...
• Actually, it looks kind of cool.

The one thing I have a hard time watching is "buried alive" type scenes. Those make me hyperventilate. It took me a long time before I could go to the cemetery where my dad's family is buried after my grandfather's funeral. I couldn't get past the 6 feet of earth and concrete liner.

Oh - I'm also afraid of swimming in the lake. I want to see the bottom. Thank you Jason, Piranha, and various other horror movies where things were hiding at the bottom.

I love you.

I am afraid of having my face covered in any capacity. This is an extension of my extreme claustrophobia. I consider it an actual phobia because I will go to any length to avoid the situation. No elevators, no tight clothes over my face. I will pass out.
I believe this fear is based on my fear of death, because it reminds me of being in a coffin whenever I am constricted.
