March 2012 Weddings

Send off!

W+C3's q had me thinking: What do you guys plan on doing for send off? Like, bubbles, sparklers, etc...and how do you plan on exiting? Will your vehicle be decorated? Will it be your vehicle, or do you plan on renting?

One of my best friends owns a body/paint/customization shop so we are switching cars for the day. He's letting us take his black Escalade on 26's and write all over it. For the send off, we haven't totally agreed on anything, but I really like the idea of the ribbon wands. Plus, it would be cute for the kids to have, and not too messy!

Re: Send off!

  • sparklers!
  • I don't know if we're going to have anything for a send off. I thought about doing a horse and carriage (that's big in the French Quarter of New Orleans) since the hotel is maybe 10 blocks away, but FI didn't really like the idea. We'll probably just get a limo or old car to take us back...

  • Thinking about using sparklers, but if it's really cold outside I'd feel bad for leaving my guests outside for longer than they have to.  I should probably start thinking about this more!

  • I really liked the sparkler idea, too...but my step sister did htat for hers, and anyone with a regular camera couldn't take good pics because of all the smoke. The professional pictures came out awesome!

The only other thing is that our hall is really wierd about fire. Although it would be done outside, we wouldn't be able to give out matches or lighters so I don't htink we'd be able to coordinate it well.

jml- I LOVE the horse & carriage idea!! I wish I could, but our hall is on an intersection of 2 major freeways lol!!
  • We're doing bubbles and leaving in a limo.
We really wanted to use sparklers, but our venue doesn't allow them :(
  • We're doing bubbles...and a party bus from the Church to the location we're going to have our pictures taken and then to the reception venue...never thought of the sparklers though..that's a cute idea!!

  • Here in Canada, we don't do a sendoff. Our receptions go until 1am-1:30am and most guests have left by the time the bride and groom leave. Usually the bride and groom stay until the very end. I've never seen them leave.

We are just getting a ride back with one of our parents to the hotel.

  • I'm not sure what or if we are doing one.  We are getting married in a church so our reception is about two miles from the church.  Right after the ceremony we will do photos and the guests are free to go to the reception for snacks.  We will be arriving by limo so for us there really won't be a need for any type of send off.

This is also pretty typical with large hispanic weddings. Actually, the ONLY reason we are leaving early is bc we have a flight to catch at 6am the following day. We have the hall rented out until 1:00 am though :)
  • Nothing as we'll probably be the last ones to leave the reception.

  • We're leaving the ceremony and hopping in a limo to drive around the island and take pictures.  But since we can't bring sparklers and I don't want to worry about bubbles, we won't be doing anything special.  Just have people waving... if they're even still around!  We're doing pictures at the venue first.

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

  • We're doing sparklers, although we have yet to buy them and then driving off in a limo. We won't have any decals or anything on the limo. Our reception goes until 11, so I think maybe half or so of our guests will have left by that point. The others will probably leave immediately after we do.
