Wedding Party

Bridal Shower

Hi everyone, I don't post over here at all. I'm a nestie now.
I was wondering if anyone had any advice for planning a bridal shower. Mine was terrible and I want to make sure that the one I am planning is awesome.

Does anyone know of any popular themes? I was thinking black and white (with the bride wearing white) but other than that, I have no idea. Does anyone here have any advice on where I should start planning? I am hoping to do up some nice invitations tonight. Other than that, I don't know what else to do.

TIA

Re: Bridal Shower

  • I wouldn't do a requirement for the dress code. Chances are, someone is not going to follow it.

I think if it's the only bridal shower the bride is having, then a theme isn't necessary.

If it's her second shower, I had a friend who really enjoyed the "honeymoon" theme.
  • Thank you!

I actually changed my mind already and am doing a retro theme where no dress code is required but everything will be decorated retro. I just don't know where to start planning now.

It feels like I am planning my wedding all over again [:/]

  • Just get the guest list, and go to a party store and find some retro decorations. Also, just choosing the right colored streamers can go a long way if you use them. Also, look into Oriental Trading...they have lots of stuff you might be able to use.

And music will help the theme.

  • Oh my! Thank you soo much! I can't believe how easy you make it sound, I don't know why I am stressing so much about it.

    Thank you again.

  • I think its really sweet that you are excited. I think a hostess that really wants to throw a great shower goes a LONG way to the bride having a good time. I'm glad you sitched the dress code, I hate when I have to dress a certain style or color for events, becaue for some reason the chosen theme never actually looks good on me day of.

I like the retro decorations, and some great throwback music would be fun. You can do the invitations really cute with that idea. Oriental trader has some inexpensive party ideas. I'm not sure how elaborate you want to go but some yummy finger food, a great cake and desserts, and some booze go a long way.

Also, don't overdo the games to much, not even sure anyone even plays games anymore, but I'm never usually a fan. One cute thing you could do would be to put out little cards or ask people to bring an old or favorite photo of the bride, and share their favorite "retro" memory. Just a thought.

  • My shower didn't have a theme, although my mom decorated in my wedding colors (black and green).

My suggestion would be to get the best food and drinks you can afford, and just make sure people are comfortable. Good company and yummy food will make it a nice party.

On the topic of games! (I love games, some people hate them, it depends on your crowd)

The bridal shower game I ever played was "notables" aka "celebrities" and the everyone had to put in a notable that related to the theme or the bride! It was so much fun. We laughed so hard.

Also, if you want to do games or even simply a game, you could remake a "retro" game show, like "To Tell the Truth" or something.
  • I like games, but I know I'm also in the minority. If you do games, make sure you limit them.

My sis hosted mine and she did a purse scavenger hunt. It was amazing how competetive the ladies got. You got points for having tampons in your bag, or more points for multiple photo ids or foreign currency.

<div>Do you mind elaborating? I'm throwing one for my sister and I don't want her to feel this way after it's over. Was it something specific? </div>
