Happy Tuesday

Re: Happy Tuesday

  • I think driving a big rig would be incredibly frustrating, because you have to leave the space, and so many drivers speed up and try to pass you. I couldn't do it.

I understand that Blue, my dad was a semi driver for 19yrs, but blame the idiot in front of me that suddenly slammed on his brakes for no reason. As soon as he took off again I sped up to give him more space. I get the feeling he wasnt paying attention to the road till the brake lights came up.  And instead of just realizing ok, no accident was caused, no lets pull beside me and act like an idiot!

This is a busy 2 lane highway, heavy traffic most the time, till it merges into 2 hwys. I didnt even want to get in front of him, but when I looked ahead in the left lane it wasnt moving fast enough for me to get in the right lane for my exit, so it was really the only space or miss my exit.

I think more accidents are caused by people who 'almost" have a mishap so lets make our point, instead of breathing and just moving on.

    But, it's over....

We formed our marriage in SC and it is (or was with Amendment One) a legally binding marriage. We also had POAs, wills, etc... to protect each other.

Since Amendment One passed there is some feeling that NC won't accept Common Law from other states, but there isn't any case law in NC, OH, or ID (the other states that have the same wordign we have) to back that up. We wanted to get really married anyway, and there are some other legal grey areas that a legal marriage will clear up.

I swear I'm not asking to be a diiiick, common law marriages are just one of those things that I guess I don't get. Why didn't you just get married in the first place? Common law is one of those things that's maybe only permitted in 10 or so states and some states won't recognize it.

  • I"m wondering the same thing, Dmills.  If you knew you wanted to get 'really married' eventually, why do the common law thing first? I'm curious. (or nosey.)
  • There was no common law marriage in NC prior to Amendment One either.

Because I'm politically opposed to having a marriage license. All states, with the exception of ID, OH, and NC must recognize it, and it's questionable in those states due to their new marriage amendments.

At this point in my life, I'm more mainstream and willing to go the traditional route. I swore I'd never have a wedding, too.

They dont want to legally get married because she cant control herself from cheating on him when she goes out without him.  he must not want to risk it.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Happy Tuesday : I agree.  I also think the rentable box trucks give real truck drivers a bad name too.  You got somebody who drives a small compact car behind the wheen of a box truck and they drive like morons sometimes. Also- maybe its just regional.  There are very strict driving laws for truck drivers here.  They can only drive in the first 2 lanes, cant drive more than X amount of hours a week, the driving test is done by state troopers and is really hard to pass. But I do know the last think they want to do is hit you because they could kill you.  My Dad and brother tell me all the time about people cutting them off etc (not saying KD did this!!) and one of my dads drivers ran his truck into a ditch into trees and almost over a cliff because some teenager cut him off and if he had hit him he would have killed him.  He figured him slamming into a tree would be better than him smashing into this kids hoopty.
