S/O poll: What's your name mean?

2

Re: S/O poll: What's your name mean?

  • My first name is a hybrid of my mom's maiden name (O'Brien) and her middle name (Anne). My middle name, Michelle, is the female version of my dad's name, Michael.

I have no idea what my last name means, other than that it's British.

[QUOTE]In the baby name book I looked at, Megan means "Pearl/Virginal", Kate means "Purity". I guess I wasn't cut out to be a hoar. I have no idea what my married last name means, but my maiden name is derived from a Transylvanian word for "Royalty".

I have a love/hate relationship with my Transylvanian roots. Sometimes I think it's really cool that my family immgrated from there when it still existed ... other times I hate that people look at my like I'm psychotic when I mention it.

The most annoying thing though, is like 70% of the time when I tell somebody, they look at me weird for a moment, and then seriously say "Now that you mention it, you do look like a vampire!". Um, I didn't say I was a vampire, kthx, lol.

First name is a variant of Guinevere; "fair, white, smooth."

    Maiden name: proportion/harmony.

Married name: dark eyes. I think a more appropriate meaning is probably drunk Irish bastards.

  • Fi and I know a guy who has a danish last name. His father always told him is meant "proud one." He was talking to a guy who spoke fluent danish one day and told him about it. The guy said, "Yeah.... or it COULD mean arrogant bastard." You have to know this guy. The name fits him perfectly.

Anyway, I have a Scottish last name and so my name has a prefix meaning "son of." (Lots of name prefixes mean "son of" or "grandson of" like Mc, O', Mac, etc. And -son means "son of" as well.) Not sure of the meaning of FI's last name, but it's German.

My first name, Meredith, is Welsh and means something like "ocean deity."

My first name means '(little) pearl,' middle name means 'the month of May,' and my last name is a noun and a verb, so it's pretty self-explanatory.

  • My first and middle name do not mean anything and we cannot find the meaning for my last name.

My parents made up my first name, Shauntee, my middle name is Tysin, I know that Tyson means son of Ty, but since I spell mine with an I, it’s not the same. My last name is so uncommon that we cannot even find our crest, so we do not know what it means. Smile

  • I'm another Lauren...so "crowned with laurel" for me, as well.
    Then "Elizabeth"=God's promise.
Last name=Came up with Scottish, but there's no meaning for it because there aren't enough records. It's similar to another last name that is slightly more popular, so I think it was probably just mispronounced or misspelled at some point, and we got stuck with it.

Hey LC--I have a silly question for you. Do you pronouce your name with an "aw" sound or with a long "o" sound?
