To have a ceremony or not, that is the question.....

Hello everyone! So we have been batting wedding ideas back and forth for some time now, and due to our low budget, we decided that to make a wedding fun and meaningful to us and the guests and affordable, we are going to do a halloween-themed wedding, complete with costumes! I have lots of details and great things planned for the reception, which will be at a rented fire hall decorated for the event, however, when it comes to the actual wedding ceremony, I am on the fence!

My fiancee (the groom) really doesn't want a ceremony at all, but would rather do a justice of the peace and just focus on he reception party. Part of me doesn't want the bells and whistles of a ceremoney, either, but then again I think looking back on it I might feel like I missed out if I didn't have a ceremony for all to see and remember, and the ceremony is the whole point of a wedding, right? But when it comes to the ceremony, I would want something nicer and semi-formal, but he wants it in costume at the reception site ( and I don't want to be starring at him in costume while we say our vows lol) Yet if we did a formal ceremony beforehand, it would wind up costing more for different places and the wedding party would be shelling out more money for tuxes/dresses and then again for costumes. Any thoughts? Thanks for reading!

  • what about a masquerade ball? so everyone dresses really nice at the reception site with the two of you in costume but more "wedding-y" clothes but the masks that come on sticks so it feels less tacky? And my officiant is in the same area as you and specializes in the kind of wedding your looking for. he typically charges 150 ( but is willing to work with people some times) i can give you his info

  • I love soon to be's idea. Another idea - what if you have the normal wedding (without attendants), and then get someone to zombify you and your FI for the reception?

  • My fiance and I are having a masquerade ball theme for our reception. My fiance and I are gettting really fancy masks and are providing masks for all the guests. It's fun because you can leave the mask off for the ceremony so that it's nice and traditional and then when you go into the recpetion it's a whole different atmosphere. It might be a nice compromise that way you get your offbeat wedding that is still somewhat Halloween themed, but alleviates the problem of a costume change.
