I don't really know.. I am thinking about trying to make my own chocolates and buying candy molds in the shapes of starfish & sand dollars.. then putting one of each in a bag with personalized ribbon.. don't know if I want to take that much on though.. otherwise I have no idea..
i bought little white cardbord favor boxes at walmart on sale and between me and my FMIL we have bought many bags of kisses. We will be seperating the green (from the xmas bags) and the pink (from the valentines bags) and i will be putting 4 or 5 kisses in each box.
I will be tieing our photoshare card with black ribbon around the box .
My FI and are huge "foodies" and I love to cook, so I am making recipe cards - I will probably put them in envelopes that will serve as escort cards too. I collect cook books from all the places I've traveled to so I am going to choose one recipe from each and there will be a variety of them.
I am thinking of going without but still not sure. Once I get closer and other stuff squared away I may give it some more thought. Although it did cross my mind to buy a giant lot of sunglasses like from the party store since we will be on the beach. I thought it might make for fun pictures.
We just ordered some handmade (from Maine) clay moose ornaments from etsy that are adorable. They are holding a little heart that is hand painted with "Maine 2011" on it. Our wedding is Sept, but we're giving the ornaments as favors because my FI and I always get an ornament whenever we travel anywhere to remind us of that trip. So we're going to tell our story about how we collect ornaments and put a cute saying about the memories we made together over our wedding weekend. It's a little corny, but it's a personalized favor, it's something people can use, and it's a momento of Maine so we really liked the idea.
I love the chapstick idea! I think it's very original and I'm very much in favor of edible/useful favors.
I am planning on making caramel apples for my favors if I have the time. I'm also going to do a second type of favor to alternate with the apples: Lake Champlain chocolates in a bag or box. The LC chocolates can be bought in bulk and are priced well. Plus, they might just be my favorite chocolate company.
Chapstick is a wonderful idea...people will actually use those!!! If your FI is just putting his two cents in (as opposed to being adamant about it) just go for it! Let him choose something else. The whole process is give and take. After all is said and done none of the little details seem to matter anymore.
We went the food route. Our wedding was in September in the mountains...we narrowed the choices down to maple syrup or blueberry jam , both a nod to my Maine stomping grounds. In the end we went with the jam, Stonewall Kitchen makes mini sizes and we had a friend who was able to work a discount for us. There is a woman in NH who will also makes jams for a VERY reasonable price and make customzied lables. I saw her at the Mollyockette fair in Bethel over the summer....I believe her name was Zelda. Shouldnt be hard to find with a name like that for anyone who is interested.
Hey Jen, I was at the Mollyocket Festival in Bethel this past summer too!! What a small world. We are putting the blueberry jams and maine maple mustards from Stonewall Ktichen in our OOT bags. Yum!
i love the idea of useable favors! Chapsticks are a really cute idea! You mentioned your wedding is outside, just keep in mind though that chapsticks don't do well in the sun for a very long period of time. ( I split a craft fair booth with a dear friend a few times in the summer and she had to keep her chapsticks out of the sun at all times the shade was fine though)
Eeee, I'm going to be the voice of opposition here, but I don't like the chapstick idea at all. I'm picky about what I put on my lips (I'm a Blistex Silk n Shine girl going on at least 6 years now), and I would either leave it on the table or toss it once I got home.
We are putting chapsticks in the welcome bags so I like the idea!! Especially if you can find someone local to do it.
We are doing CD's as the favor and adding music from our wedding. I know it's been done but we LOVE music so it will be fun. We are having this dual as a place card as well.
