why did you become a knottie?

Hey ladies... I was just wondering why everyone decided on being a knottie as opposed to a member of weddingbee, project wedding, etc. Are the forums better? The bios? The members? Just interested in why people made their decision.

Re: why did you become a knottie?

  • I learned about the Knot when my best friend was engaged and I was her MOH back in 2005.  I never knew about any other wedding sites or boards until after I was already here and I never checked out the other places.

  • At first I posted both here and on brides.com.  I hated it here at first and stayed on brides, everyone was so rude!!!1!!  But, then I got sick of the puppies and rainbows on brides.com and wandered back here.  The rose colored wedding glasses came off and I appreciated the reality of these guys.  And I liked that there are decent local boards on tk, none of the other boards have local boards, and if they do they're pretty broad and unused.

Plus, I needed all the planning tips and stuff, cause I don't really know how I'd plan a wedding without the internet.

  • I was looking for wedding dresses, and TK came up on my search. Then, I found the boards, and I liked them so I stayed. I ventured to one of the other websites once, but my IQ dropped ten points from reading the forums, so I strictly stay here.

  • When I first got engaged, I wanted to see if I could find other people with ridiculously long engagements. I posted here, and I got like twenty responses in ten minutes. Then I realized this place was hopping, and here I stay. I like it when message boards have lots of activity.

Wouldn't it be nice to live together in the kind of world where we belong?
  • It was the first thing that popped up on google when I went looking for advice when I got engaged.

My sister sent me here when I was MOH for her wedding in 2006. She said there were lots of articles here about MOH "duties" for me to read. *sigh* But the site had cool wedding stuff that I liked and I remembered that.

When I got engaged, I came back to get ideas and pics for flowers, etc. Then I found the boards one day when I had a planning question, and liked it so much I decided to stay. Like Sarah said, P&E was hopping back then. And in my first thread there were 30+ responses, an argument between two regs, and tons of sarcasm. I was hooked.

  • My MOH had mentioned tk when she was planning her wedding so I checked it out when I got engaged.

I was bored at work and had read the same articles a million times when I discovered the boards.  At first I thought P&E was blunt and kinda rude, but after a bit of lurking, I got it.

I also loved that most posters could spell and use proper grammar and called other people out when they didn't.  That's probably what really hooked me!  I remember visiting other boards and being appalled at their spelling and fleeing.

I've only been to other sites when they get brought up on here, and it's mainly to see the trainwrecks.

  • I actually started out posting equally on TK, Pricescope's bridal forum and Brides.com.  But Brides was too slow and boring, and Pricescope kind of made me depressed because those broads throw around some serious cash and my little piddly wedding budget made me self-concious.  So it was TK by default, and after a bumpy start I *heart* it here.

I do use WeddingWire for plannings and stuff though - their budgeter is awesome.

  • Still haven't heard of the other sites. I'm not the type who ever thought about my dream wedding. I was the MOH for my sister's wedding, and I was amazed that she planned a beautiful wedding on a tight budget. I knew she was on The Nest (she talked about it a lot after having her first daughter) but I didn't know about The Knot before she suggested it the day after I got engaged. We had a few glasses of wine, and spent hours looking through the resources here. Then she told me that while I'm not "the type," I might find the boards really useful. She was right!!
