The Grecian Center...and prices...

My FI and I really like the Grecian Center. The only thing is when I was talking to my friend who got married last year and I told her the prices she said that it sounds super expensive. This is what we are looking at if we have it there...For buffet for 3 entrees it is $23.45 a person..however we might go with the 4 entrees for $24.95 a head. We are only getting the standard bar package because our families are mainly beer drinkers. And that is $7.95 per person. So that is about $32.90 a person. I didn't really think that was outragoues until she went on and on that she only paid $30 a person. Is what I'm paying in the ballpark? Or is it too much? Have any of you ever been to the Grecian Cneter? Everything I've heard about it from people has been good.

P.S. Does anybody know how much ice sculptures are? My FMIL realllly wants to get us one. But I don't know how much they are and if they are expensive, well I don't think we really need it?

I am not familiar with The Grecian Center but I am paying way over that for a hotel in Downtown Detroit, so that $34 per person sounds SUPER reasonable!

An ice sculpture from www.icedreams.net is pretty inexpensive, I believe only about $285 for a one block ice sculpture and that includes delivery and any design that will work with one block of ice.

I don't really think you can compare prices from someone that got married last year at a different place. Most halls will increase their prices year over year. I am not familiar with the Grecian Center, but I can tell you that we are paying about $70/pp for buffet and bar. So what you are telling me is about half the price. It sounds pretty reasonable to me. But you also have to take into account the quality of the food. If it's not very good, well, then you're getting what you're paying for.

FSIL had her wedding there about 2 years ago, and with the mid-level bar and family style it was about $35/head.  That sounds reasonable to me too! We're doing Arnaldos and it comes out to $50/head with family style, appitizers and premium bar.

Chances are they raised their prices since last year.  That's normal.  I would say that $32/person is very reasonable.  I'm not familiar with that particular venue, but I know that out of all of the places I looked at, that price would be on the lower end, so definitely reasonable.  We are paying $40.95/person for buffet, premium bar, and an all-inclusive wedding package (linens, chair covers, centerpieces, etc.).

We really like Arnoldo's. We decided on the Grecian Center because every wedding we have been to in the past few years has been at Arnoldo's so we wanted to changed it up. I heard the food is good. We are going to do a tasting in a couple weeks. Then we will know for sure. We aren't getting married until 2012 so we have a little bit of time. But not a lot of time to sit around and wait.

The Grecian Center is very nice & that price is pretty reasonable.

We're doing Crystal Gardens in Southgate and got:
Wedding Invitations & Thank you notes
3 meat Family style or Buffet dinner w/sides, etc
    6 hour DJ
    Premium bar
    Champagne fountain
    Wedding Cake
Pizza served one hour before departure
for $53.50 per person!  By the time you add up all the extras that they include, I thought it was the best deal downriver!

I also am not familiar with that venue...but the price sounds really reasonable! We're paying a little over $70/pp for plated dinner & premium bar...
If you really love the venue & your tasting goes well, I think you're getting a great deal.
Plus, as a bonus...if your wedding isn't until 2012 I'm sure that will save you a lot of money by booking now, before they raise prices for the next 2 years!! :)

Because you're not getting married until 2012, make sure if you do sign a contract anywhere, ask them what you would be responsible for if the prices happen to go up. We were locked in at $1.00. So if prices went up $3.00, we only had to pay $1.00. It's very important you ask them about that. The prices they have now may certainly not be the same in 2 years.

Those prices are very reasonable for that area. I've been to several weddings at the Grecian Center and they are always fantastic. The food is excellent, and the staff there are excellent. My MOH had her wedding there last summer and the coordinator there is so sweet and really has a handle on what's going on.

Definitely take Corinne's advice and make sure that if prices go up between now and your wedding, what you would be responsible for.

I'm having my reception  at Laurel Manor in Livonia. ....Around  $30 pp sounds low to me, I am paying $66 pp...including standard bar

    For 66 Im getting

Beverages, Pasta, Salads, Bread, 2 meats, Potatoes, Veggie and Dessert along with the wedding cake.

We are also getting a late snack...I think they are going to order pizza and hour or two before the reception ends.

That price is definitely reasonable. I agree with what the PP say about the Grecian Center. The food is pretty good and the staff is always really nice.

That's actually less than what we paid at Orlando's in Riverview.  Ours was $26.95 for 3 meat buffet and $7.50  pp for the standard bar.  $34.45 total - so that sounds about right for what you got quoted at GC.  I've been to a wedding there before too and the food is really good!

That is actually pretty reasonable pricing. I am using Orlando's and mine is just a bit cheaper.  A  problem I had with the Grecian Center is that they used to tax you once for food and another time for everything which is a huge rip off. Plus, their food is not the best. It has been a long time since I have been there and they might have improved since. I dont want to turn you against them I just think you should have every tool at your disposal to decide which hall is perfect for your day.
Also I made an appointment with them back in May and I was very disappointed with their lack of professionalism. The manager made me wait a half hour to be seen and I had other appointments that day which she made me late for. Then when she finally made her way up front, she didn't even know she had an appointment! I was given a decent tour of the inside. She asked us if we had planned on having an outdoor wedding and I said it was a possibility. She asked me if i'd like to see their gazebo and I said yes so she gave me verbal directions. She didn't even bother showing me herself and when my mother, fiance, and I got outside, the gate was locked. So we stood there looking at the gazebo 600 feet away through a locked gate. Nice.
But it is completely up to you whether you want to go there. Things change and maybe their service is better now.

One more thing: prices go up every year. That is the cost of living. So if your friend was married a while back that could be where the extra few bucks came in.
