How many dresses are you wearing on your day?

So… my mom thinks, I should wear another dress, besides the wedding dress… according to her, it’s very common in asian weddings that the bride changes into 3-5 dresses throughout the wedding day… at least, that’s what she said. :)

I will have a traditional vietnamese dress for the tea ceremony, then change into my white dress for the rest of the day… then I was planning to change into my traditional vietnamese dress during the table greeting at the reception, coz it’s easier to maneuver in it and so all guests (who weren’t present at the tea ceremony) can see the traditional dress too… then change back into the white dress afterwards… so that’s 2 dresses for me already…but my mom said, I would need at least one more – for the reception… I’ll probably won’t listen to her, since I love my white dress and want to wear it as much as I can… so just curious: how many dresses are you wearing on your wedding day?

  • just one!! I dont want to keep changing. PLus i spent with the cost of the dress and alterations $800 on ONE DRESS...im wearing it as much as possible! Lol
  • Just 1 I spent enough money on it. Plus FI and I are going back home after the wedding since we are leaving really early the next morning for our honeymoon!
  • I'm with PP- I want to get as much use out of the dress as I can that day :)
    Anniversary
  • I'm only wearing one. My Mom mentioned the idea of a reception dress/after party dress, but its the only day I can wear a wedding dress, so I'm keeping it on until I go to bed that night!

<div>My thoughts exactly! I will only be wearing one as well.</div>

  • Two. We are driving about an hour and to the hotel after the reception, and I don't want to sit in the car in my wedding dress or deal with keeping track of it on the honeymoon, so I will change at the end of the reception, maybe have one dance in it, say goodbye, and take off. I know some women like the idea of going to the hotel/airport/wherever in their wedding dress, but that doesn't appeal to me, so I would want to change unless we were going back home for the night. I am just changing for practical reasons though, and I will stay in my wedding dress for as long as possible.

Just one here as well.  I thought of changing into a shorter dress for the reception so I could boogie down with my friends and not have to work with a long dress, but I decided I don't want to bother with alterations, steaming, etc with a whole second dress.

  • wow! that's a lot of changing!!!  I'm only wearing the 1...I thought about wearing a 2nd dress for the reception, but fell in love with my 1 so much (when I found it) that I soon dismissed the idea

  • Only one for me too!  I love my dress and don't want to wear anything but that dress.  I'm gonna boogie in that dress until FI makes it fall down!   Yahoo....

  • Also only wearing one dress.
Although I love that your incorporating tradition with the two dresses. If you don't want any more than two I would stick with just the two!

  • I'm only wearing one for the same reason's as PP BUT I also don't have a tradition of changing dresses. I've seen quite a few pictures of Asian weddings and I love seeing what dress the bride will come out with next lol... If your mom wants you to change ask her to buy the dress :)

  • Only one dress...and for as long as possible! I never even considered a recpetion dress. I only get to wear this dress one time and I am getting my (or my mother's) money worth!

But, I do love that you're incooporating tradition into your day.

<div>that is true! your mom is right. if that is part of your culture then the amount of dresses you wear will probably be different than the majority on TK. </div><div>

    This exactly.
  • I'm wearing two dresses. I have one dress for the ceremony and the beginning of the reception and then I'm changing into a shorter party dress for the dancing part of the night :)

  • Just one!  But I'm not Asian, either.

I spent too much money on it and love it too much not to wear it for as long as I possibly can without making it weird, haha.

  • 1 to 2. My mom has convinced me that I might want a get away outfit...and I found the perfect dress that I love (i think maybe even more then the wedding dress.)thats the same leval of formal and the same style/color as the wedding dress but shorter.  So I am taking it to the reception and then will decide as the night goes on if I wnat to change or not change. It really will depends on the weather since my dress is stinking heavy if its really hot I know I will want to change for sure, but the current 'plan' is to stay in the wedding dress till bedtime.

  • I have two, I love my wedding dress, but cannot dance in it (or even sit down in it!) so I have a reception dress, that was only $80 but is perfect.
I think, like PP said, if your mom wants a 3rd dress, and is willing to buy it, maybe you'll have fun finding one more that you really love too :)
