  You can do that?  They are not part of star alliance.

  You can ask.  Most airlines will want your business, so if you are silver or gold on one, another (not of the same alliance) will typically ask for proof and then match in order to get you to fly on their airline...  ie - AA is not star alliance but matched my status a few years ago on US when I asked them to.
