Re: Stolen from TN: 100 foods to eat before you die

• This is giving me the shudders. Well, everything except Bellinis, obviously.
• I've had 31 - I can never imagine eating a squirl.

[QUOTE]Currywurst looks good, Anna. I'd eat that. I didn't realize Fugu was pufferfish. I've never seen it on any of the Japanese restaurants I've been too. However the poison thing scares me I don't think I'd have the balls to eat it. I'd also draw the line at birds nest soup. I'll try pretty much any non-deadly plant or animal. But I don't consider swallow nests to be either, nor would I think of it as food.

I think that might because they don't want to run the risk of killing anybody. I think they might at the higher-end restaurants in big cities like NYC and such, but at your local sushi spot, I highly doubt it. Plus, they'd probably have to charge out the ass for it since it's so controversial.

[QUOTE]Reddy, you've never had a Bellini!! They are delish! Kd, you are insane: Black pudding , blood pudding or blood sausage is a type of sausage made by cooking blood or dried blood with a filler until it is thick enough to congeal when cooled. The dish exists in various cultures from Asia to Europe. Pig , cattle , sheep , duck and goat blood can be used depending on different countries. Fuuuck no, I'm not eating blood.

[QUOTE]Has anyone ever had balut? I haven't, but my dad did when he was in the Navy back in the day. They had a port call in the Philippines. He liked it.

I want to try it so bad! I saw it on Bizarre Foods and now I'm obsessed with finding it somewhere.

Note: Preserved duck eggs are terrible. Don't ever fool yourself into thinking it might be remotely like balut.

• kd, one cannot ever go wrong with roasted eggplant. For serious.

Also, I forget who it was now, but one of the 75+ food'ers hadn't had paneer. It's reallllly good. The first Indian dish I ever had was Matar Paneer, aka, Peas and Cheese (paneer is the cheese). It's a nice, mild, soft, yummy cheese.

I feel like there needs to be a Canadian version of this list, as things like biscuits and gravy and chicken and waffles don't show up often up here. And some of the processed cakes/pies aren't sold here either.

Matar Paneer is my FAVORITE!
• Saag Paneer is my favorite food. I think I'm going to have Indian food for dinner.

Do you have a Trader Joe's nearby? They have some really great frozen Indian food dishes and their garlic naan is amazing.

• I've only had 15 of the items, but I have no desire to eat or try most of the other items on the list.

Thats part of why my list was so low, some of it is obviously just not available in Canada unless you find some rare specialty restaurant or store. Im more likely to find the gross stuff than that.
• The squirrel comments are making me chuckle.

When DH was a kid he wanted a BB gun and got one for his birthday. He then proceeded to hunt squirrels in the backyard. His mom told him if he were killing animals he had to gut and skin them and make use of them, he could not just kill for fun. She thought this would be the end of squirrel shooting. But DH continued hunting and cleaned all of the squirrels he killed and his mom wound up cooking them up in stews.

[QUOTE]Okay, so the ones I had to look up: Bellini- a drink with peach and sparkling wine? heck yes.
Pavlova- Russian meringue dessert- I'd try it - Actually it was invented in Perth Australia in 1935 and named after Russian Ballerina Anna Pavolva to celebrate her visit to Austrlia.
Frito pie- omg, I had to turn my face away from the screen, white trash flashbacks. Som tam- Also known as Tam Bak Hung, spicy shredded soup, I've had this! I've had every Asian thing on the list, - Som Tam is actually a Thai spicy salad
I think, except the fugu.

Sorry I hate mis-information.
• 66 that I know of, but I eat a lot of things without asking what it is in English, so that number could go up. I don't eat eggs typically and am allergic to pineapple, so some of the list is out, but I'd honestly try anything but the pineapple (egg adversion is purely a taste thing).
