I am so freaking bored. Also, Happy Friday

Re: I am so freaking bored. Also, Happy Friday

• TGIF - So happy it's finally here!

Tonight is Goettafest (clicky) and a Reds game with H and two of our close friends.

Last night was so much fun. My cousin finished her college courses and it was her birthday yesterday so she invited people over for a water balloon fight. It was her, her brother, boyfriend, parents, my H and brother. Yes, we're all 10 and had a blast. :)

Bay, so happy for you that you're finished! :D That gymnastic thing is ridiculous.
• Midge, that sounds like a awesome way to celebrate. I don't know how it was going to work out, but I heard on the radio today that two of the morning show DJs brought in water guns yesterday and so the other guy was trying to retaliate today with water balloons.

Haha, that's awesome. I hope he uses them outside somehow though. That could end badly in a radio booth.
• This had been a long week for me too, Edie. Sorry you didn't sleep well :(
In Response to Re: I am so freaking bored. Also, Happy Friday : Yup. I mean, to be fair, I judged Mustafina's nonstop tears at the end of the team finals a little bit. She couldn't stop. At least let the girl go collect herself somewhere. But to be seriously underscored and have it potentially cost you the medal? Yes. Cry. That sucks. She's so cute too. (which is random and unrelated, but true)
Posted by J&K10910
I don't think Mustafina's a diva, I think she has an attitude problem. The way she pushed her coach out of the way in a rage after she fell off the beam was just uncalled for. But I was pleasantly surprised by the way that both Mustafina and Komova were gracious towards Gabby in the press conference, there was none of that usual bullshit of "they deliberately underscored us and stole our gold medal" that there has been in the past.

If anyone was robbed, it was Raisman. I can't help it, she's been my favorite of these Olympics.

• I think you have to look at it a little bit from the other pov though too. Dropping the lowest score - which for Mustawhatever was REALLY low, that means she had such a great routine that out performed her counterpart. I think it's one of those the rule is great if it goes in your favor sort of things.

I just don't think there will ever be a fair way to break a tie though.

Yes. I wouldn't call any of them divas. To me, a diva has a long standing reputation of an attitude problem ;) But for sure she needs some adjusting. I get being pissed after having a bad routine, but your coach was just doing his job. Don't be a bratface about it.

I didn't see the press conference, but I'm glad to hear that.

• I'm pretty much with you on all that Bay. These gymnasts are still so young and have trained their whole lives for these moments. And unlike some other sports you pretty much only get one shot at the Olympics in gymnastics, where as swimming they can do 3, 4 and even more Olympics. Raisman is such a good sport in all of this though.

Also, and this may have been talked about already, but did you see that people were criticizing Gabby that she wasn't properly representing the black American community because of her hair not being done?

• That is a load of superbunk. "Hey, you guys tied, but I'm going to arbitrarily tell you to suvk it."

Sara, I agree. They should take the second t bottom score, not the bottom. You shouldn't be able to totally eff up and STILL medal over someone who didn't.
• All I kept thinking yesterday though was if Weiber were there instead of Aly there wouldn't have been any question.

H is going to try to compound her meds into a gel that can be stuck to her paw for her to lick off so his parents can medicate her, and then we're going to ask them to stay here instead of us taking her there. It won't be super precise, and she probably wont' get her full amount of medicine, but considering our other options are board her and possibly kill her from the stress, or for her to have no medicine at all....well, some is better than none.

• I feel like maybe it would be a more fair tie breaker to drop your highest and lowest scores.

• Oh FFS, Beachy. She's BLACK. How can she represent any less??
• Jeezum, Beachy. Although I'm loving the response from someone:

"People busy talking about Gabby Douglas not having her hair done?? She's busy sweating & WINNING GOLD MEDALS.. you're on TWITTER. Right."

Though I will admit last night and the night before, I thought the up-too-high, overflowing bun-ponytail things that Raisman, Douglas, and Maroney had were pretty awful. Jordyn Weiber's ponytail looks so clean-cut compared to the other three. But again...nobody is out there bitching about the other athletes' looks. People are so busy assuming that gymnastics is supposed to be beautiful and elegant and gorgeous, I think they forget how difficult a SPORT it actually is.

• I don't know. It seems either way you look at out, dropping highest and lowest scores gives someone an unfair advantage. If you drop the lowest score, someone can totally fvck up and still medal. If you drop the highest score than someone could have an amazing routine and then not medal. They should have just handed out two bronzes.

Rock, paper, scissors. DUH.

Morning! H and I did nothing but sit in bed, drink wine, eat, and watch Gossip Girl. It was delightful. It's nice that things are finally slowing down now that we're pretty much done moving.

Yay for a break, Bay! This summer has been so nice with no classes.

• Yeah, I did not care for Raisman's hair style last night. But guess what? She could shave it off, dye it pink and make it stand straight out from her head, or cut it with a chainsaw...and she'd still be a better athlete than me, so I guess I don't really care what she does with her head.

• Team USA all had the same hairstyle - I'm sure someone would have criticized Gabby if she had microbraids while the others didn't. It is what it is. People will find anything to complain about. They were a uniform team and wore simple ponies. It's much better than foffing glittered up hair that was cool 15 years ago. They're about the sport, not the fashion. Which is why they beat that a$$ and won gold.

Hahaha, I can't help it, every time I see the Russians with their glittery hair and 10,000 barrettes it brings me back to '96. Russia will always have the damn glittery hair. It's tradition.

• I have no opinion on how any of them do their hair ever. Jordyn clearly has some thick hair that works in a ponytail. Aly looks like her hair is naturally wavy maybe, and I would just assume that it's hot and humid in the gym which would be a nightmare. Also I'm sure it's very possible for a ponytail to be a distraction and to get in your face while you're doing all those flips and turns and everything. So do whatever you gotta do with your hair and just keep kicking ass out there.

• I remember a day where Shannon Millers bangs were cool. So cool I had them too.

I liked the German girls hair. I did not like the one that had braids on the side that were glitter color painted to match her flag. I watched her head, not her routines.
