The Racquet Club of Philadelphia

Has anyone had their wedding at The Racquet Club of Philadelphia or been a guest at a wedding there.  I am very close to selecting this venue, but would really like to hear more about other people's experience there.  I like that it is different than the typical hotel ballroom wedding and the main hall area is very beautiful.  I am just a little worried how to manage the transition from the dinner area to the dancing area.  Any feedback would be appreciated!!

Thanks!!

I went to a wedding there about a month ago.  Its a beautiful venue and different from the norm.  There wasn't any problem moving from the lobby to cocktails, to dinner and back to the lobby/main area for dancing.  The only thing that I think would be tricky is if you intermixed dinner and dancing.  I think this venue works best when you have the entire meal first, then dancing. (from what I saw)

Thanks for the response!  Do you by any chance recall when the couple did their first dance?  I was thinking that doing it right after dinner would be a good way to get people out to the dancing.  Thanks!

I'm a member of the RCOP and I've seen several weddings there in passing.
I am also having my own wedding there this september.
I'veattended formal members dinners and dancing and it always seems to work out.
I understand your concern about the timing though.
My plan is to have the cocktail hour in the lobby,
then dinner in the dining room then the cake cutting
then back to the lobby for dancing.
We are going to do our first dance after everyone has had a chance to eat some cake, then we arent doing any other "special" dances, or rather, they will just be mixed in throughout the night.

Thanks, Dagney!  Congrats on your upcoming September wedding!  What made you decide not to use the 2 red rooms?  Have you been happy with the catering/event coordination services so far?  Thanks!

I had my wedding there August 2009, and loved loved LOVED it! Our ceremony was held in the Foyer. Here was the general schedule:
    -Ceremony in Foyer (15 min)
-Cocktails in Red Room (45 min-1hour - we had our photos taken during this time)
-Entrance of wedding party down the staircase
    -Toasts in the lobby
-Dinner in the Blue Room (1:00-1:15)
    -Cake Cutting in the Lobby
    -First Dance
    -All Dance

It sounds very rushed and crazy, and while YOU will feel it goes by in 15 seconds, for the guests the pace was perfect (no dreaded lull, and everyone finished their dinner). Our planner was excellent in outlining the timing of each element.

My husband and I stayed at the RC again for our first anniversary :)

Hi Malia!  Thank your for your response to my message board post. The schedule you sent is very helpful.  Did you work with Marc?  He is who I am working with and my experience has been very positive so far.  Did you do father/daughter and mother/son dances?  If yes, where did you squeeze those in?  Also, do you have any recommendations for other vendors (music, flowers, photog/video)?  I would like to work with vendors who have worked successfully at RC in the past.  It is a unique space, so I feel like hiring people who are familiar with it will help the process run smoother.

    Thanks so much!
