[QUOTE]I miss my Honda.  I had a '99 Civic (bought it new for $16K) for 10 years and at 216,000 miles it was still going strong, but my grandfather offered to help me get something newer and it was an offer I couldn't refuse.  I still got $1000 trade-in value on my Civic (amazing since there was damage on the fender).  I really wanted a Honda CR-V but ended up with an '07 Hyundai Sonata with only 10K miles on it.  I like my Sonata, it gets good gas mileage and is much roomier than my Civic.

I totally still miss my Civic, as well.  I traded it into Acura and they still gave me so much for it even tho it was beat bc it's the same maker.  Amazing car... I would recco it to anyone!

Try looking into lease return cars, my car is a 2007 but because it was a lease return it only had one user so at least I knew its history. I got a 2007 Mazda6 when my 15 month old Pontiac was totaled and it wound up working out really well. It's four years old and still gets almost 30mpg. FH has a Honda Fit which definitely qualifies in the not-much-money-but-excellent mileage. He hasn't had a single problem with it in nearly five years.

[QUOTE]we're most likely going with a honda civic (even though I had to convince FI to stop at the dealership). for the gas mileage and all the features the price is the same as the elantra, however there are many 2012 civics in stock so there is room for negotiation. they're also running 0.9% apr through july 5th for 48-60 months at honda right now.

</div><div>I was going to say from your previous post, if your FI is driving cars into the ground, why not go with a Honda?!  I love my Civic (I have a 2010 EX), which replaced my VW Passat, but it was a HARD transition from fun-to-drive Vdubb to automatic Civic (EX does not come in manual, no matter what the Honda site says, they do not make them).  But it made sense in the end; I had the same problem, after 100k miles a VW is done and that is just not enough for an expensive car.  And the gas milage in the Civic was not so great for the first 14k miles.  After that though, very pleased. If he like driving, I HIGHLY recommend getting a manual LX/LX-S (the Si takes premium!), you'll get more out of it.

I'd stomach the premium fuel for the 6 speed manual and the extra horses!  LOL

How did it end up going w the Honda dealership? I'm going to need to buy a car sooner than expected (likely this or the latest next week) so I've been making the test drive rounds. I was hoping to try the Elentra, but the only availability I'm seeing at dealerships is for manual. I don't have the time to wait for the stock to come in so I'm down to the new Civic, Corolla, and Mazda3. I'm a bit concerned about the price w the Civic, the Corolla seems fine, but not especially exciting, and the Mazda I'm not sure about, but the dealership has so many in stock, I'd probably get a good deal.

Were you looking at the 2011 or 2012 Elantra? I know that Global Auto Mall in North Plainfield had a bunch of automatic 2011 Elantras when I was there.. it is hard to find any 2012 models this early in the year.
